gotta get new tires, should I...
PS2s
Just read an article in a magazine at a tire store and different brands of tires were compared with the Michellin PS2s under wet and dry conditions, road noise etc. Believe it or not , the PS2s wound up being in the middle of the ratings. It did very well under wet conditions, however. Dunlop and Bridgestones were rated higher. Note that they were not comparing Porsche N rated tires. The point being is that the Michelin PS2s are simply not the best tires under all conditons. So, you don't necessarily get what you pay for. I have and prefer the Bridgestones N rated REO50 A.. Good price for me. I don't track. Sorry, but I don't remember the name of the magazine.

I don't put to much grain in these tests. If the test was using the same car that you are putting the tires on then maybe. Tirerack just did a battery of tests but the Pirelli PZero edged out the PS2, the car was a 07 328i I believe. They aren't using a N spec tire. I have seen the same size tire but one was N spec and the other wasn't..same manafactuer, same size. However, the tires were completely different. Perfect example of this is the Pirelli Pzero N spec vs. non N spec. The tread is completely different.

My conti's wore out in 6K miles . Had them on one of my cars --just can't recall which . I think it was the 996.1 (not sure) . Ps2's have been hard to beat.
I had RE050's on my Cayman and they only last 8k for the rears. Despite the quick wear I really liked how the tires felt. Good grip, strong sidewalls, firm but sure footed ride, and tires give warning when giving out.
I replaced them with Ps2's and the PS2's ride better grip just as good and have a higher tire wear. I'd go with the PS2's if you want something that'll last.

Seems like all of them can wear out quickly. Strictly by treadwear numbers, the PS2's should wear the fastest. I had a bad experience with Contis in that with some negative camber, the insides wore out well before the rest of the tire.
A big factor with these tests is the N tire rating. I suspect the rear tire sidewalls of N tires can be very different from non N tires due to the load a rear engined P car puts on the sidewalls of the rear tires. Just a guess here.
How are the RE050's for noise and ride comfort?

Don't let the wear number help you decide which tire is better then another.
OK, some good info from you all, however, to help me make the right decision let me arm you with this info, I plan on trading for a TT in the next six months or so, really dont care about getting another 15k out of a set of rears, however, I dont want a tire that is louder than the PS2, grips less than the PS2, or just has an alll around crappy feel. I want to enjoy the car for what it is and keep on riding it hard. Thanks again all
-by the way, Conti's or out for sure, only considering, Bridgestone, Michelin, and mayyyybeeee the Pirellis, but not so much.

Being Dutch, i have to bring up the Dutch tire manufacturer Vredestein. I run the Contisport 2's on my 997 C2 now, but am seriously considering the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta next time. They come in the size 235/35 ZR 19 91Y XL and 295/30 ZR 19 100Y XL. I've read alot of test and reviews about these tires, and supposably there great!!! They don't have a N rating though... but i'm still gonna buy these tires, because there about have the price of PS2's! (Great Design too...)

The new car and driver this month compared other tires to PS2.dunlop,hankook,ranked higher and at a lower cost pick up a copy.It changed my mind I think I am going with Hankook if they have the siezes I need
Depending on how much you plan to drive the car in the next 6 months, then swapping out all four seems like the right move. You can advertise the car as having new or low-mileage tires.
OTOH, the P2's are, in my view, the best tires going. I don't have a lot of faith in those reviews, they typically are testing when the tires are brand new, and they may not be testing the exact tire that the P-car uses.
The balance of grip, controlled release, wear and noise (particularly as the tire wears) really favors the P2.
And maybe the staff of Michelin are tough to work with because of their background, or maybe it's just because they make great stuff...

Yeah, the have some right to their arrogance and price. The PS2's have been near the top of the heap for a long time and the PS's before that.
The tire choice is tricky too, because if you don't like them, the rears wear out and you need to throw out fronts that are only half life.
Good point about noise as the tires wear. Often the reviews on Tirerack and others only reflect when the tires are new and as they get old some designs become horrible.
