gotta get new tires, should I...

Hey 15k on my 08S and in need of some rears. I really should get the PS2's but at near $500 each, I was wondering if anyone here has tried the Bridgestone RE050 tires. I guess its worth knowing if anyone has anything good to say about them since they are about $150 cheaper each. Most likely I will go with the PS2's but just wanted some feedback first.
Thanks in advance,,
Danny

Personally I wouldn't mix tires front to back, I would keep them the same on all four wheels. You could buy all 4 050's or two new PS2's.

id buy 4 new vs 2..

the Re's are ok, have you looked into other brands? like nitto invo? i run them and they feel great.. they arent PS2's but then again they arent 500ea for rears that wear out quick as hell.

+2 on the tire mix . Tires are the biggest expense and if you got 15K miles that's actually better than I have ever done. My best tire record was 13K .

What about the Continental ContiSport's. My friends new 997.2 came with them (he wasn't to happy about this as he was wanting the PS2's).

...and not to take this post off thread, but why does the two Pirelli choices for my rears in size 305/30/19 cost $459 and $472 each, when the same Pirelli tire in size 375/20/21 that fits on the back of a Ferrari 599 ONLY cost $397 each

My guess is the fact that it's an N spec tire...that's it.

BTW, just changed out my rear Pirelli's from 295's to 305's. I got 15k miles out of them and they were bald on the inside tread but overall they wore pretty evenly..

As for the OP, I would buy 2 new rears and then on the next set the fronts should be about fried and I would do all 4 a different brand at that point.

Excuse my newbie question, but what does N spec designate? I know I'm supposed to "only" replace my tires with an N spec tire. HOWEVER, how come my friends new 997.2 came with Continental tires and they are not N spec?

Facing a look at tires myself. The N spec tires have special features integrated into the tire designs by Porsche with the mfg. I would be stunned if a new 997 came with Contis that were not N spec. I've seen a lot of posts about N spec cost compared to normal tires. Looking at TireRack, I've seen that a couple of the N spec tires are cheaper or only $5 more expensive. Even the PS2's. I still hesitate about the Michelin's too.
A little sidebar about Michelin. I've done business with them. I know why there tires are more expensive. They are bunch of pompous French a**es. Really. Always thought there stuff didn't stink. I'm just really bummed that other mfg. just don't mfg. the other good tire designs in the 295/305 -19 size a Porsche needs.
With the RE050, I've checked that one out. The one thing is that the RE050 in Porsche spec is a different tire from the RE050 Pole Position. There seems to be a big difference in the rating for traction and noise. Unfortunately, the PP is not available in the Porsche size.
I don't know about the Conti Contact 3s, but I don't think they are in Pcar sizes. The 2's are not that hot and the Contacts suck. The damn PS2's just seem like the best choice, but I'll be damned if I give that company my money. I wish the new Goodyears were made in the rear sizes.

Another word of caution about the tire surveys. The surveys are always enthusiastic when there aren't very many miles in the surveys. You'll note that the new Conti and the Yokahamas are high in the surveys, but don't have very many miles in the surveys. Often after tires are around longer, people get over how new they are and then the true reputation comes out.
Wow, a little bleeped word (without even puting it in my post) and I lose all my rep points??

It just started to occur to me that they have a pretty good product, but it really isn't that much better than the current Goodyear or Bridgestone offerings. So why are they so much more expensive...
