Read this thread on the Sumitomos, it seems there are plenty of people happy with them and at $1,000 less than PS2's it's hard to pass up.

spoke with Damon at TireRack, what a stand up dude. Really really nice and WAY knowledgeable. He helped me out a great deal. Haven't made a final decision but I'm getting close. tons of good feedback. He basically stated that the RE050A is just as good as the michelin but that the michelin has always been the top dog. He said stick to the same tires front and back. Also, the Sumitomos that others have mentioned are really good, especially for the price but do not come in 997 fitment. Also, TireRack prices happen to be exceptionally good as I'm sure many are aware. Hope this helps

Interesting. According to the Tirerack ratings though, the RE050A -non- PolePosition is much lower rated than the PS2. The Pole Position tires are not available in the 997 fitment. Maybe the "N" RE050A's are better than the usual RE050A's, I don't know.

No way your friend got a new PCar from a dealer without N spec tires. If he did, time to get Porsche involved as they are very emphatic about only using N spec tires on their cars. A new to him used non CPO car maybe. The whole N spec thing is driven by Porsche to insure that the tires they put on their cars are up to the task when driving at autobahn speeds for extended periods of time.

OK, some good info from you all, however, to help me make the right decision let me arm you with this info, I plan on trading for a TT in the next six months or so, really dont care about getting another 15k out of a set of rears, however, I dont want a tire that is louder than the PS2, grips less than the PS2, or just has an alll around crappy feel. I want to enjoy the car for what it is and keep on riding it hard. Thanks again all

Man, the Conti N specs are $1200 and the PS2's are $1600 and $760 to replace the rears versus $1000 for the PS2's. The reviews for the Conti 3's seem to be a lot better than the 2's. Maybe they are the way to go. The RE050A's in N spec are not the newer Pole Position tires, so don't confuse them I don't think they are nearly as good.

He hasn't put to many miles on them but I'll ask him. He was only bummed that his car came with the Conti's instead of the PS2's I think because of reputation only and not any real world experience.

This is what I am going with after my tires wear out. They make them in the correct load rating and speed rating. Fabryce at GMG racing also said a lot of good things about this tire.
