Used Inventory
I haven't listened much to the stereo because I am still enjoying the sound of the engine too much. I did make an MP3 CD to make sure it works and it does and the system sounds great for my needs. All genres I like sound great. I will end up doing an Ipod mod though I am sure. I miss my mises.org university downloads and some podcasts.
Got quoted 16k off a 125k 09 C4S CAB, not bad but I think in November if they are still around might be better. Might as well buy a TURBO.
Net effect: cheaper to buy a new MY09 car than a demo of the same age. Dont expect the same deals once the current stock clears, production cut backs bring supply in line with demand, and the economy picks up.
)
Made an offer and walked .
I made an offer on the meteor car today and I walked out . I had never dealt with used cars and since my usual new car salespersom is out of town, I walked in as a newbie (in their eyes) . I was driving the M3 .
I explained to them that I have bought multiple cars and know the market . I also explained that I got most people here great deals . The manager asked me why I didn't buy those cars myself . I explained that I had not been in the market for a car until today . (I am planning on allowing my girfried's 20 year old son who working very hard to use my Si -so I am looking for a daily driver replacement and this used 07 lo0ked good) .
The plus -
1) Car had less than 10 K miles
2) It drove beautifully
3) I like meteor
3) It had bose . chrono, power seats .
4) left tailpipe looked clean
5) all 4 tires will be replaced and the car is expected to be certified .
The minus
1) I dislike sport design wheels
2) I dislike P zero tires.
3) car did not have full leather
4) They disclosed a replaced clutch . I drove it and it was fine . I have confidence that service did a great job replacing it . Service is outstanding.
I offered 55K, pending a DME . They were at 61 . I walked . Manager also told me that he did not have to supply DME and I told him that anyone I send him won't even look at the car unless he has it. Pretty simple , really.
I never met these particular guys in used cars. BTW the salesman was a total gentleman and very professional but he is not the one who decides the final price. Acually I do . That's why I walked. I did tell them that if I was going to over pay for a car it might as well be a new car .
The car has to be parked outside . I may just replace the Honda with another Honda as the worry free car . Not just sure yet .

In my search that ended a mere 2 weeks ago, I would say the market has firmed. I got a great car, with a complete inspection and really clean DME. An '07, especially as a CPO, is just not around for under 60k. At least in the NE. I had to drive 200 miles to get mine and it was totally worth it. I think it was off the NY metro radar. Checking the dealers, the cars under 60k are all gone. Mostly modestly equipped '06 S's without full equipment priced in the mid to high 50's. Hopefully I'll have pics to post after cleaning her up this weekend!

This actually was a nice car I drove . I didn't like the wheels and tires and would like to see full leather plus I am still not certain about the Honda replacement aspect . I'm not desperate . Plus I have talked with 6speeders who bought 08 cars in the mid 60's (same options , new) .
I don't feel badly about walking awat from a 61K 997S even though it drove nicely but if someone does want it I would understand .
I still feel the car is worth my offer --55K (57K if they placed classic wheels and Ps2's) . I am not budging on my price and am content if I never buy that car.

I thought a bit more about your post . Maybe if I didn't already have a 997tt , maybe if had planned on sharing the Honda - if this had been my only chance to have a 997S --maybe I would have bought it .
When I consider weighing 6K of over payment compared to the lifetime memory of a Porsche it tilts the perspective. I do understand if someone buys it but it won't be me. Emotional reasoning did not lead to a Porsche purchase in my case.
Perhaps I let my Turbo nest so much in the garage that i miss driving a Porsche daily but want to keep mine with low miles .
I do see that the used cars have climbed a bit . I did say last week that new cars are really the place to shop but I am not buying a new P car .
This thread helped me decide on replacing the Honda with another Honda Si. I had to see that meteor car though . I did consider it.

Well, based on this thread:

we may be in for some interesting times ahead in terms of pricing. During the free fall of the last 9-12 months on pricing, it was hard to get a handle on what constituted the "right" price. Going forward, we may see the same things but going the other way. It may be tough for buyers in the market now who have seen the great deals that were gotten and trying to replicate them going forward. Patience will continue to be important but at the same time, I think serious buyers need to be ready to move if the right car (with the right PPI, DME, etc. checks out) comes along.

Economic optimism is nice to hear but most of my car searches are simply snap shots of the moment . Right now .. low mi , nice optioned cars are hard to find . The real deal is shifting towards new cars . I do not believe that Porsche dealerships will have this same type of inventory flood of cars in the future . I saw this first hand with BMW . Last year dealerships had as many as 15 leftover M3's . Now they have 1 to 7 cars at best , Used M3's are nowhere to be foud.
This type of bargain buying frenzy is a one time deal . Everyone (especially shoppers) are getting wiser.

PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection
DME = Computer Engine Scan to determine if there have ever been any engine over rev's.
DME is normally part of a PPI. An absolute must when looking at buying a used car (as well as a paint inspection to determine if the car has ever had any bodywork done). Should run about $200 - $300 at a Porsche dealer's service department.

The better deals today are in new cars or a used Turbo . The used C2S once plentiful and priced reasonable has faced a momenatry price up tick .
