To buy or not to buy?
To buy or not to buy?
Hey, I'm a longtime car lover, new to P-cars, looking to take the plunge. Looks like the C4S will meet my needs for a sporty 4 seasons daily driver. I have a Lotus elise I'll keep for auto-x and occasional DEs. Would love to step up to a turbo, but that would necessitate selling the Elise.
I found a red '06 C4S with 16k miles, aerokit, bose, manual sport seats. Doesn't seem to be really loaded (i.e. no chrono sport, parking sensors). It's listed for about $58k which seems like somewhat of a deal, since other low-mileage (let alone aero kit) cars I'm seeing are all in the 60s or higher. It is an '06 though, and non-CPO (non-porsche dealer).
Deal or no deal?
Thanks in advance!

If the new cars are being discounted 20 percent them that will shove the pricing of used cars down. Not long ago a forum member insisted on a car with an aerokit and it made the serach and prices higher . He got a great car but he and I nearly serached the entire country for listings and there wre not many cars which looked attractive . In short --if you love the car you are close in price. Offer 54.5K and do not budge .
That's good advice, thanks. The owner of the dealer also owns a Porsche dealer elsewhere, but a competing Porsche dealer is right across the street. So I am planning to drive (or ask them to let me drive) the car across the street and get a PPI.
As far as being in love, I've truly got my heart set on a GT3, but have practicality concerns and would have trouble letting the car sit for several months out of the year (like the Elise does). I'd basically end up driving some other car the majority of the time, which isn't the point. The turbo can fill that slot, but I don't love it enough to make the sacrifice.

Is that the red one at the Nissan dealer? Car looks really cool if you dig red. Car like that would always hinge on the DME scan. If it is that car, it was listed in the 60's for a while.
Also, personal preference, but those are manual seats. I could not live with being able to tinker with the seat position while driving. Personal choice though.

Yep, that's the one. It's the owner's car. I dig red for special occasions, but I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about having a red car glued to me all the time. Wife loves it though, which is an added bonus. I'll go check it out and see how it makes me feel.
In this price range I've been looking at RS4s, and while that car is way more practical, it's a lot less exciting. Plus, after buying the RS4 I'd still be thinking about the 911.

Only other thing I notice is that it's missing the splitter. Not a big deal as long as it's not indicative of an impact or respray. Dealer assures me that it isn't, but we'll see.
It is a cool looking car, even with the guards belts. In case you haven't followed it, they listed it for $64k initially. Just goes to show how the prices come down. I kind of wonder about aero kit cars and somehow feel that the cars could have been driven hard. A jersey dealer still has an aero kit car in black under $60k if you looking for an aerokit. Can probably be had for $55k.
The splitters on the aerokits are really low. The slightest driveway scrapes them. They are not that expensive to replace.
You can make the ppi at that p dealer down the road. That dealer has some nice cars, but their list prices are really inflated. Too much of a PIA to negotiate with people like that for me.

I had given up and then saw this particular car on the road this morning driving to the dealership. It looked beautiful. They lowered to 56k and called me, but I didn't call back. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on an 08 rs4 for a similar price range, now I'm wondering wherher I should reopen the dialogue with these guys at 53 or 54k.
Went down there and drove the car today. Fit like a glove, was very natural and easy to drive fast on a few on-ramps and off-ramps. Front splitter scraped slightly coming out of the driveway where even my Elise didn't have a problem... that wasn't great, but no big deal. Transmission was easy to heel and toe, car looked amazing in person, very clean, much better than I expected. Interior had slightly more wear on the driver's bolster than I expected, but again not a big deal. Car is up to about 19.5k miles (advertised at 16k from original ad). Funny how that makes a psychological difference.
They said that after starting in the 60s, they are now down to the bare minimum they can go, and the 55.9k is firm. I haven't seen other 4s cars (let alone aerokit) for this price, and driving it was fun (sounded awesome), but I didn't leave the lot thinking "I have to have it." Is this because I've done track time in a 997 GT3? It kind of felt like a cross between my BMW and my Lotus -- less torque than the BMW and less precise than the Elise, but sportier than the BMW and more comfortable than the Lotus, etc. An awesome all-rounder, but not the crush of my dreams.
One thing I noticed about it, by the way, is that it is very elastic and doesn't seem to have a ton of thrust off the line, but while on the highway, it pulls hard and for longer than I expected -- has long legs. Seems like a good car to for passing on windy roads.

That was the car at the Nissan dealership? THey've had that baby for a while. Indeed, they are very tractable. Pull from down low and just keep going. They probably never changed the ad and someone probbaly "demo'd" it.
