Brake rotor rust - keeping wheels clean

Okay, I wash the car and the wheels meticulously. The brake rotors immediately develop surface rust. I drive the car and first time I hit the brakes, the rust comes off on my wheels in a sludge that looks like $%@$#. Then I have to clean the wheels again!

What’s the catch? Do I have to dry the rotors?

Blow the rotors dry. That will push all the crap out.

flush the rotors out with water really really good. Then use a electric leaf blower on them to dry them and let the car sit for a while.

Don't wash the car! Or get PCCB's.

Otherwise this is a by product of unprotected cast iron.

This is kinda funny but I usually have my car washed once every 2-3 weeks. I honestly prefer driving a dirty car, unlike the popular choice. I never like to be driving a perfectly clean looking, shiny car everyday, it would feel very artificial and mental, to be trying to keep the car in that perfect / dealer condition. Perhaps it comes from being in construction business, naturally, but the car feels and looks more aggressive with stone chips and dirt etc. The car there, is to be used.

After you've washed the car crank it up and drive it for a short distance appling the brakes a couple of times to dry them out. I just back it up in the driveway briskly, hit brakes till it stops, then I drive back to where I washed it, again drving briskly, applying the brakes again till I stop. When you put the car away no rust develops on the rotors. Works everytime for me.

-drive around block once (tap brakes to dry/rub off rust)

Wink

normally if u give them enough time to dry u wont get the skum on the inside of the wheel when u it the brake. its that easy, but all the techniques above all work as-well
