Dealer tells me DME not necessary for Tiptronic car, overrevs not possible, true?
Over Rev's on a 6speed manual are not due to reving the engine while accelerating...there is a rev limiter that cuts fuel and you will only get a level 1 over rev. The higher Level over rev's only come on a 6speed manual when a driver miss shifts and drops to a lower gear and the engine over rev's...this is also called the money shift.

Can a money shift occur on a PDK or will the computer reject the gear engagement? I was told it woiuld not over rev but am not looking to test it.
I ran into this a couple times during my search. Dealers and PSers not wanting to provide the DME scan, I just walked and didn't look back.
yes, computer will reject the gear engagement
Not True....I am looking at the DME readout on my '07 turbo tip as I write this and I have 72 Range 2 ignitions.......
Got the DME for this Tip C2S and here's what it says - thoughts?
Number of Ignitions Range 1 1566 263.1h
Number of Ignitions Range 2 1 186.9h
I have no idea what 186.9 means, is that seconds? milliseconds? can't be hours in range 2 can it?
Nothing in range 3 or above.

There was little doubt to me that you can have revs over the rev limiter through hard accelerations and engine momentum. I don't know about our 911's, but with other cars, often the rev limiter cuts off slightly lower on 1st to 2nd than 2nd to 3rd because the relative speed of change in RPM is obviously much greater.
Fellow Bruin, the recording of 1 in range 2 really suggests a computer error, someone else posted readings of 1 in all the ranges, which is pretty impossible.
The hour indicator is when the overrev occurred in the vehicle life. Check what the hour status of the car is, it will show you how long ago the overrev occurred. When I looked at mine the last overrev was shortly before the guy sold me the car! Obviously took it out to hammer it right before he sold it to me!
I don't think those readings are anything to worry about.
