Absolutely agree - full AWE and a BMC-F1 filter panel in the stock airbox to help intake airflow a little. As for ECU, I've not done one yet, so can't comment meaningfully but it would need to have been mapped with regard to any other mods (and the highest octane fuel you're likely to use) to be properly effective.

Sure I would meet up anytime on a weekend...Im out in Atascosita....

I came from the 1950lb Lotus Elise and my car was highly modified with an intercooled supercharger putting down 295 HP to the rear wheels. I ran DE events with NASA and thedriversedge.net.

I had much more fun and learned a lot more with thedriversedge.net....great group of guys and they have some good Porsche instructors from what I can remember.

I may be there but weekend trackdays are hard for me to attend because of my family obligations. I usually look for weekedays.

I have heard several times for now references of BMC-F1 filter and at same time advices against K&N oiled filter. How come? They seem virtually exactly same products.

Best bang for the buck, I'd say do the following:

Headers
Full Exhaust
Intake
ECU tune

Then to reduce those lap times I'd consider suspension. Bang for buck, throw in a set of H&R springs and I think you'll be happy. They're relatively inexpensive and make a huge difference in the handling of the car.

As for the claims about intakes adding power. Some will say it's fraud, which I think is not necessarily a fair assessment to make. The EVOMS intake has shown proven power gains on the dyno. They are minimal (@10hp) but they are there. The problem most people have is that 10hp is difficult to detect using the butt-dyno. Most cars will vary by 10hp depending on the weather, so feeling the difference from an intake may not always be as noticeable as some other mods, but it's there. Couples with an exhaust, the power gains from an intake ARE there.

When I buy a CAI it usually for sound with minimal expectations of power benefits unless it's in concert with other bolt-ons like exhaust headers.

I am in full agreement here. The basic intake/exhaust /software setup works well .

What surprises me is that HP gains attainable out of a normally aspirated engine are somewhat limited to begin with and yet I see guys pound the pavevement with system A over system B and split hairs over this.

What surprises me even more is that the suspension seems to be overlooked as part of a complete perfomance setup. It makes no sense to have a little juice if the car is riding on squishy stock springs .

+1,000

Yar is right, he usually is.

The only way to get power from our NA cars is FULL EXHAUST with less restrictive or no cats.

Buts this is going to cost you: $2-$5K!!!

Headers: $1600
Cats: $1500
Mufflers: $1200
Tips: $400
ECU Tune: $1,000
Intake: $500

=$6,200 for just parts!

At the end all you have is a better sound and perhaps 20 HP increase at most.

Or you can do the Gundo hack for $150, and get a great sound and keep the rest for track days and tires.

But after you start track days, then you will want to upgrade suspension, suspension, sway bar, and wheels = $6-7K

It just depends how deep you want to go and how much you want to spend/throw away.

How do I know, because I have done it!

Best bang for the buck is D.E. events and/or the Porsche Driving School Series. You should see what Walter Rohl can do w/ a bone stock Porsche.

Stock airbox = free
Stock mufflers = free
Stock tips = free
X51 headers = ~$600
AWE 200cpi cats = ~$1500
Softronics ECU tuning = ~$1000

Total = ~$3100

I would think this should be close to ~85% of hp gains vs. going with the full exhaust and intake which would mean spending twice as much to get the extra 15%...

Plenum results seem to vary from gains to losses, from car to car...almost like spinning a roulette wheel, but Im not sure its worth the gamble. Sure they have a money back guarantee but to find out if it really works would require before and after dynos which cost time and money...both of those are non refundable.

How much is the lightweight flywheel with installation?

I tracked my 997 C2S for the first time a week ago and was pretty disappointed with the amount of body roll, even in sport mode. However, I don't want to destroy the street ride (this is my DD) with lowering/springs/shocks, etc.

Would switching out the sway bars be the best way to go? If so are H&R the preferred setup with an otherwise stock suspension?

To the OP-nice car! congrats and enjoy!

You'd be surprised how well the car will ride with a set of H&R springs. That will eliminate a good portion of the body roll you're experiencing on the track, but still keep the ride compliant enough that it's tolerable for day to day driving.

thanks for the info. Springs & sway bars or springs alone?
