Wrong Car But Happy as a Clam...Oh and XM?
SubscribeHi everyone, I'm brand new to the Porsche owner domain and brand new to this forum so I'm really excited but I hesitate to share my car's particulars with you guys because from what I've read I made the biggest mistake you can make. Last weekend I purchased my new '09 911 Carrera Cabriolet with PDK but without Sport Chrono (eek!). Please don't hold that against me because I couldn't be happier with my new baby. Seriously, is the chrono package that important if you're someone like me - a non-horsepower/track kind of guy?
I was also feeling really proud of myself for working a 14% off MSRP deal until I read the recent bargains some of you have received. Maybe I should stop reading this forum.
To the real question; does anyone have information on adding satellite radio after the fact to the PCM 3.O harness? I've been given different answers from my local dealer, Nav-TV and things I've read online. As I understand it it's a no-go and will never be economically feasible.

Congratulations on your new car! The SC is desirable but your car is fine. In D mode the PDK will shift as you drive it and it will adjust its shift pattern to your driving style. If you feel it upshifts too early, do some kick-down throttle applications and it will progressively adapt to your liking. In M mode the PDK shifts at your command.
For any electronic add-ons, such as XM I suggest you talk with Eric at Bumperplugs.com (a site sponsor).

SC can always be achieved with a tune if you feel the car needs it. Your discount is very good considering you got their top seller: Cab + PDK. I'm pretty sure XM can always be added for a price. So congrats on the new ride and continue to be very happy with it!
XM was one of the options that was not a retro-fit when I got my car. There's probably some aftermarket way to get it...
Otherwise, congrats on the car. As for SC, it is a fun toy, but consider all the fuss that you avoid trying to sort out whether or not you like normal or sport or dislike the sport's abrupt downshift to 1st on stop...all that drama you can avoid. And you have a clean dash without the "tacked-on" clock. I drive my car pretty often in normal and it is fine - better than fine - it's a 911!
14% off - what's not to love - a great year to buy a Porsche.
What we will hold against you: NO PICS
. Where's the pics ????

not with PDK...SC+ w/ PDK does a lot more than just alter the feel of the throttle. To fully unlock all the performance of PDK you have to have SC+. However if you do not care about getting the ultimate performance out of the car w/ PDK then you will not miss SC+.Originally Posted by ntlgnt1

Personally I have a Porsche for the performance of the car. I want to experiance all the performance I can get. Plus I use SC+ at the track all the time. I do drive on the street sometimes in Sport mode but not usually Sport Plus mode.
Don't worry about making a mistake. We all have made mistakes and realized our mistake after the purchase. I was very careful and looked for about 6 months but in the end I did not get full leather. It is very hard to get that perfect car.

Here is what SC and SC+ add to PDK. I'm pretty sure all of it can be achieved through tuning (except maybe launch control) though you may not have the convenience of dashboard buttons to control the modes:Originally Posted by mdrums

"Our test car was equipped with the Sport Chrono package, which gives the PDK two additional modes - Sport and Sport Plus. In Sport mode, the transmission shifts more quickly, with more positive clutch engagement. Sport Plus adds much quicker shifts at full throttle, and both modes use a more aggressive shift map in automatic mode. The Sport Chrono pack also includes a launch-control feature for the PDK, which dumps the clutch at 6500 rpm and then modulates throttle if necessary for optimal grip. It also knocks an additional 0.2 second off the rush to 60 mph (now accomplished in only 4.1 seconds for Carrera S models, 4.3 seconds for the base model)."
I am happy that you found the forum but sad that you found it later than you would have liked.
I sounds like you made a decision but I don't think its too late to change this . SC is an important option and with 14 percent off you woild take a hit in trade but if they gave you 20 percent off on the new car --it may be as if you bought the new car at 14 percent .
In short .. every day you drive that car the chances to change become harder and there's nothing worse than having the dream car with this little cloud of doubt for three years .
My vote goes to hedging the loss right here and getting a car with SC.
Gnockie (sp) did it with his Tip that he traded in. I did it with a five day old Honda . It can be done and I would banter the numbers with you on this thread if you want .

Wow I never thought of that. Hmm. However, my wife nearly choked me over this deal so I'm afraid a letter from the attorney might come in the mail if I even think about buying something even more expensive.
...but do tell; how much of a hit do you think I'd actually take?

I have no idea what your car cost . Here's rough figures on a 100 K car . Originally Posted by RandyP

If your current car MSRP was 100 then 14 percent off is 86K . You would have to get them to ante up 80 (expecting 78 at worst) and sell you another 100K car for 84. At best you will pay 4 grand plus tax . At worst 6 grand plus tax . IF you can get this deal and i think you can .
That is not incredibly expensive to hedge the loss and erase any doubts .

My 2c would be to send this PDK to hell as a concept and just drive manual transmission as all old good plain folks do. Originally Posted by yrralis1

Gosh, so many troubles over one button. Who could only imagine...

LOL! I hear ya but I'm also very much interested in the XM option too so it wouldn't be just for the Sport Chrono. From what I understand adding satellite to the PCM 3.0 would require yanking out the entire setup and installing a totally new harness - $5k.Originally Posted by utkinpol
