1/2 done with H&Rs!
1/2 done with H&Rs!
Well, I got the front lowered with H&Rs tonight. Will do backs tomorrow or Wed. Paid $250 shipped for new springs, $90 for floor jack and jack stands from Sears, $80 for torque wrench, $8 for 21mm socket to butcher. One of my cheapest mods so far!
Had to make a narrow jaw adjustable wrench (to get off drop link bolts) and make a slot in the 21mm socket, but that's easy with a mill in my garage!
Took about 3:45 and was a LOT easier than I thought. I hear rear is even easier. I also bead blasted my lug bolts back to new when they were off.
So far, so good. Looks waaaaay better already. I'll post pics when done.

The statement, "Easy with the mill in my garage" makes the phrase, "It was easier than I expected" immaterial to an average guy like me!

I just did this last week! It really was not as bad as I had feared. I took pics and made step by step instructions on my Cardomain site. Here is a link to my site, I hope it works.

I had an E39 M5 for about 5 years and that car introduced me to a whole new level of complexity! Those cars really are living up to their reputations, and it is reflected in the used pricing these days (a 540i is generally worth more than an M5 of the same year/mileage!). After the warranty expired I repaired/replaced: all cam position sensors, MAF's, clutch/flywheel, control arms/bushings, fuel filter, VANOS (both banks!), springs, shifter, and some other stuff I am forgetting.
Swapping the springs on the 911 was about as easy as working on my beater Cobalt!

Yeah.I build and shoot competitive pistols for a hobby, so a mill with DROs on all three axes is a must.
ALL done! Took me a bit to figure out easiest way to get back shocks off, but still had rears done in about 3 hours. So, all total I spent about $430 and less than 7 hours of my life. I'll have another $100 or so for an alignment, but still a VERY reasonable cost mod when doing yourself. Also, now that I know the tricks, I think I could do it all again in about 4-5 hours.
Now, for the review... looks waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy better! 4X4 no more! I took a brief drive and I really believe its a bit more compliant than the stock 997.1S springs. I'll play with handling a bit after the alignment, but I don't expect much. This is really a just for show mod to me.
So, anyone want a set of 997.1S springs? These should drop a non-S PASM 997 around 10mm and a non-PASM one around 20mm from what I've heard. If so, PM me your offer.

I don't have a lift in my garage or anything like that, so it is really hard for me to do
I guess I need a couple more years experience before trying anything like this
But doing my own mods is one of my dreams...
Hopefully I will be able to do it soon!
BTW I want to see some pics!

I don't think I have enough experience to do it alone... I would need some kind of supervision...
