WTF....1600 miles and ...
Just took the car out for a spin....only 1600 miles on the car and it says the oil level is LOW !!! Should I add myself or bring back to dealer who is close by....if I should add then what type?? Thanks
Do not overfill the car . Get multiple readings before adding oil . Oiul consumption is normal and on the DFI car even moreso . As long as you are somewhat distressed I recommend that you go to the dealership and have them show you and set you at ease this one time.

On the dash gauge it shows it at the lowest level and the check engine oil level warning sign came on in the car.
Sucks because they are closed on Sunday so that means no driving until Monday

The snag is that the float is very sensitive so it may give a low reading one moment and be OK the next . Overfilling creates a bigger problem .
I don't think its a matter of him not being able to do it Camhabib . He had several questions about the oil , the mileage and such . It takes 5 minutes for them to help him and if he overfills it may take him a week to clean the mess.

go to the auto parts store and buy 1 quart of Mobil 1 full synthetic 0 W40 oil and add it to the car.
if your light came on, adding 1 quart of oil will bring you to 1 bar below FULL.
there are 3 bars between the min and max of acceptable oil level.
each bar represents approx .4 quarts.
if you drive the car hard and especially in hot weather, the car is going to drink oil. its normal for this engine

you do 0 W40, 0 W50 or 5 W50. all are acceptable and i believe the factory does a 0 w 40 fill and no harm in mixing either
If the car is new it is not unusual it hasn't been filled up properly (done when hot etc), also driving out of the city can have that effect sometimes. Read the manual.
You need Mobil 1 0/40, New York is quite cold in winter. I would say 5/50 is more adapted to hot weather or tracks.
The level is 1 bar for each 0.4 quart as explained below and in the manual. Make sure you're on truly flat ground and measure when the engine is completely cold (morning before starting is best).

Thanks for all the help....checked it several times and consistently low....I gradually put in 1 1/2 qt of 0W40 and now it's good.
BTW "habib"...i did it blindfolded and with one hand tied behind my back !!

As an aside, could someone explain to me the problems that one would face if the oil was overfilled? Does the system not have a built in overflow reservoir or something of the like?
Bosco, no need to freak...just add some Mobil 1 0w-40. Some Wal-Marts stock this oil but all auto parts stores like Pep Boys Auto Zone and so forth have this oil.
Add just 1/2 a quart 1st.
If you have a 2009 I suggest that you run the ca until you get the oil above 150. 200 is prefered. Pull back into your garage and recheck the oil level. Turn the car off and wait for 3-5 minutes. Start the car back up and re-check the oil. At this time the oil level indicator will usually read higher.
Always make sure you check the oil on a perfectly flat surface, like your garage floor or you will get some serious eratic readings.

Hope you didn't take it my comment in the wrong way. I didn't mean it to be insulting or anything of the sort, just that I found it surprisingly easy, despite the perceived complexity of the system, to perform basic maintenance on it. I had expected some obscure port halfway in a cramped engine bay, but was greeted with a rather nifty extending funnel that was easy to operate.
