Just picked up my 2009 997C2S 6 speed manual yesterday and gotta say I am impressed. I am a first time Porsche owner. I traded in an 08 Z06 for the 997S.

This car is so much different than the Z06. The Z is just such a torquey beast of a car. Believe it or not the Z is actually easier to drive. Less clutch effort and lighter steering.
That being said the 997 feels more confident. Steering feel is excellent.
Clutch engagement definitely more effort than Z. Shifting takes a little getting used to more precise in nature. Z would produce a lot of torque down low in RPM range where as the 997 comes alive at higher RPM's.
Only time will tell as I break the 997 in and venture further up the tach.
I can say so far I really like this car. I am finding myself taking the long way to get to places.
It would be great to hear from any members that have gone from a car like the Z to the 997C2S.
Glad to be here.

Color I went with is Meteor Grey. I am getting used to the color. I have had black on all my cars for so long. I gravitated towards the black 997's I saw, but wanted to make a change.
My only slight complaint would be clutch effort. Does this effort get a little lighter or can it be adjusted? I have had manuals for years and this is definitely one of the stiffer clutches I have encountered. If it were not for my foot bugging me a little I probably would not say a thing. The Z was like butter.
Meteor is a great color . I have also had 4 out of 8 black 911's and I never get tired of them . The new color is a great idea though as it might feel like a new car . In the sunlight that's when the beauty of meteor really stands out . Congrats .

I had an '07 Z06 and am now in a 997.1 C2S. I thought the Z06 was more difficult to drive because of the awkward seating position and the long front end. I thought the steering in the Z06 was quite numb and did not provide the level of feedback from road to steering that the Porsche does.
Aside from the awkwardness, the Z06 ride is surprisingly very comfortable. It actually rode nicer than my E60 M5. While I think the Z06 is a tremendous performer and looks fantastic, it just doesn't have that Porsche "driver's car" feel to it. I enjoyed the Z06 but I never found myself "finding" reasons to get in it and go for a 30 minute spin all the time like I do in the 997S.
The thing I despised about the Z06 (aside from the crappy interior) was the transmission noise at low RPM's in first gear. Drove me nuts.
Anyway, congrats on the new Porsche. I love the color you got. If I had the opportunity to choose a color and build a new one it would be Atlas or Meteor.

I am still amazed at how planted the S is and how precise the steering is compared to Z. Now if I can only figure out this break in thing. Manual saying don't go over 4200 rpm first 2000 miles, that is torture. Especially in a car that doesn't really come alive down that low.

Try a car with sport clutch and lightweight flywheel - that clutch will be probably almost twice as stiff.
I stalled my car probably twice during first week. In one month you will stop noticing this and I have to say - 911 clutch feels perfect. It will just take time to get used to it and to exact location of engaging and separation points.

Like you said takes time to get used to it. Same thing happened when I first got my 535xi 6 speed it took a little bit to get used to.
Congrats on the new car! It sounds like a beautiful car but we need pics!
The clutch is stiff like you said, my 350Z's clutch was really light... It takes some getting used to but once you get used to it, no problem! In fact, after not being able to drive my 911 for being away, when I got back the clutch felt completely normal

The 997's clutch is definitely heavier than previous manuals I have driven. After driving the Porsche, my BMW's clutch felt really light. You will get use to it though after more driving. Congrats on the new car!
Thanks, yeah when I first got my 535 I thought the clutch was heavy now it feels light in comparison to the 997. After a couple hundred miles or so I am getting more used to it.
