997S questionable purchase!!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEDWX%3AIT

I thought about purchasing this 06 C2S! Spoke w/ the seller(non-Porsche) There is something going on w/ the 3rd-4th shift, he is taking the car to a local Porsche dealership to have the trans fixed or replaced. The car has around 44k odo, its a 1 owner car from Fl. that was recently sold @ a Fl. auction, clearly it was well driven, not bad looking! Asking price around 51k, said he would take 49k! What do you guys think?

I couldn't get the link to come up fully, but based on your description it sounds like something to avoid. It may look good, but if it's not mechanically sound then it's worthless. Also, highly recommend paying a little more for a CPO'd car. Peace of mind has its price!

Don't you feel that buying a car ought to have less doubts? I mean 51K is still a lot of money.

The link comes up, just scroll across the bottom of the page for the pics( stop around the middle). I drove the car myself, it seems pretty tight. I did experience the 3rd -4th shift problem, feels like a syncro went bad, which will be covered by the factory warranty. I just felt if the price was right & w/ a thorough PPI from Porsche , it might not be a bad thing.

Yes, your absolutely correct! I am looking at other cars, a few 6gt3's which have been tracked, which is something I was planning on doing w/ this C2S. I haven't made any concrete decisions yet on this car, but if a PPI from Porsche comes back ok, and the price was negotiated under 49k, would it really be a bad thing?

From looking at the pictures and I realize how picky I am being here, but it seems that the previous owner was rough of the car. Just looking at the interior pictures. The steering wheel, shift **** are all chewed up. The floors look like they were not well maintained. Just seems to me that if a used car is in rougher then should be condition, that might be a tell tale sign of how it was taken care of previously. Add to this a transmission issue, yuk!

These things would bother me and I would pass, especially considering you could probably find other cars, similar to this in probably better condition, for the same or little bit more money.

I did notice that the interior was well worn also, over all the car felt pretty tight aside from the tranny issue! Thanks for your insight!

50K too high for this car

Anything near the 50K mark is too high. The published KBB for a car in this condition is going to be mid 40's at the highest, retail. You can do a LOT better.

Don't let the "tight" feeling of the car trick you .. almost every Porsche I've been in had that feeling, even the one the stealer lets me drive while my car is being worked on. I know that car has been run way past hard, and it still manages to feel great to drive.

The car needs some tires at least by what I see on the pics before it's even put for sale. What dealer won't take care of making their cars looks their best prior to advertising them? I agree with others on condition of steering wheel and shifter. Why would someone not care enough about his/her car in order for it to look like this in 44k miles? Also, that condition on the transmission could be a sure sign of abuse by the previous owner or, at least, a sloppy hamfisted driver. I guess the car would be fine, depending on the price of course, if it gets all its issues sorted out with a replacement transmission and a clear PPI and DME scan to get a better picture. But, for $51k I would expect a car in far better condition than that. You definitely don't want even a $49k mistake!

OK, I finally got the link working today. In addition to what everyone else said I noticed the manufacture date is 09/05 so I say too many negatives, avoid!

Please buy it! That would make my 06 C2S with 19K and perfect condition worth about 65K and then I could get a 2010. Seriously, in both Florida and Indiana I have not been able to get a serious sniff at 55k.

Thinking it over, I'm going to pass on this! This car should be priced in the low 40k range at best!
