will 245/35/18 & 275/35-18 fit on my stock wheels?

Im looking to get a set of the hoosier R6's in 245/35-18 and 275/35-18 for my stock wheels to run AutoX at this weekend but my stock tires were 235/40-18 and 265/40-18 (from tirerack.com) so will these R6's fit? and is it better to go bigger then OEM or stretch smaller tires then OEM?

R6's are used for Road Courses, they take a lap or two to get up to temperature, and can withstand longer periods of heat.

A6's are used for Auto Cross, they get up to temperature faster and are not designed to take long periods of heat.

You will melt the A6's on the track, and R6's won't get up to temperature at Autocross.

I would say you could get away from them, the short tire height will give you a little quicker acceleration, with will be good for Autocrossing.

Are you driving to the autox on these tires or changing tires on-site?

If you are driving to the site on these tires then look at the Kumho V710. They'll stand up better on the street than the Hoosiers. I've got a couple years autox experience with V710 on my GT3 and I drive to the site (40 mins away) on the V710. No problems.

I see all tire discussions revolve around 5-6 brandnames all the time - PS2, Toyo, Kumho - could anybody who knows this stuff by heart put all that into simple tab format like:

----------------------------------------------------------
Tire name | Street | Track | Auto-X | Will melt on track | etc.

to identify what tire is good for and for how much?

Craig,

I would agree that Allan is an Auto cross expert. He is one of the fastest guys at our club's events.

I volunteer you to start the thread. I am sure that there will be a number of opinions, and just when it is complete, the silly tire manufacturers will go and change/improve/discontinue tires.

I started too many threads here already, so I better skip this one after such an encouragement.
You start it. People know and like you so it will be more productive this way.
