PDK Plunge

Rolled the PDK dice and picked up an 09 C2S last Saturday from Pioneer Porsche in San Diego. Previous car was 05 C2S manual that I had for 4 years (great car!). It is going to take a lot more seat time to tell if I made the right choice on transmission. DE coming up at end of September so I will find how much (or even if) I miss the stick for track work.

Very nice, keep us posted on your transition experience as a lot of us are contemplating the same.

It will take about a month to get accustomed to the level of interraction you can have with the car --maybe more . I'm still learning.

Congrats on the new car.

Tcelv:

It looks like you got one of the PDK launch cars. I leased the same car 3 months ago. I love it! Learning everything the PDK can do will take a while, but it's worth the effort. Enjoy!

Thanks guys. Car certainly feels different than the old one. It has the PASM sport suspension option that lowers the car another of 10mm and adds limited slip diff. Wonder how much difference that would account for between the feel of the cars?

Glad you are enjoying...like the others have said above, time will only make it more fun...as a matter of fact, I attended the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham in July and requested a PDK car so I could learn the in's and out's of it from these fantastic instructors. They were so excited about this new technology that it was astounding. You can get so much more out of the powerband of the car - I was leaving the manual transmission guys in the dust on the track, especially coming out of turns...my brother attended and is one of those "manual transmission is the only way" guys and calls PDK "cheating." Ha. However, it was fun watching our videos that the school gave us, where you can see from his POV my car peeling away from every turn! He eventually caught up, as the cars have the same engines, but the instructors were explaining that the gear ratios were different and the power is more "on tap" in the PDKs...plus I could just focus on my lines, rather than shifting/heel/toe, etc...which all of the other guys messed up repeatedly. Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a debate between manual/PDK, as that has been done to death, but I love PDK and have learned a lot about it as I go. What a fantastic transmission and great technology. Can't wait to drive the Panamera next month with this equipment.
