Hair-raising 997 Ride!!

I just took my 997S for a slalom ride down a very windy hill. The hill is "S" shaped for a whole mile and the speed limit is 25 mph. My last car, a 2001 996 C2, could not handle the turns over 40 mph, until I installed an H&R coilover suspension with negative camber and big meats which helped car handle same turns @ 60 mph. With my stock 997S in "sport" mode I was able to take these turns @ 60+ mph without a screech from the tires!! I felt like I was in full control of the car at all times and didn't feel any intervention by the PSM. The car felt like it was on rails. Downhill, I was hard on my PCCB's before every turn and there was absolutely no fade. At 60+ down a windy hill you can imagine how much I was on the brakes and they performed flawlessly. Once I got to the bottom, I did it again uphill. Again, 60+ around turns and the car stayed planted. Acceleration was strong and I felt like I was on a flat road. I repeated this two more times to see if the brakes would show any signes of fade and sure enough they kept grabbing like I just took it out of the garage. After my third run on the windy hill, I headed for the freeway for a quick 100-0 brake test. I came off the exit at 100 mph, put car in neutral, and slammed the brake pedal and the car stopped without a pulse from the pedal...... f ckn amazing!! The g force was like a roller coaster coming to a sudden stop. If you're an aggressive driver, don't let the $8k price tag of the brakes discourage you, they are worth every penny and will make your car alot more fun to drive. There is nothing worse than pulsating steel brakes when they are over heated. PCCB's are fade free and love heat.... this is why they are standard on the latest GT3 Cup car

Yehaw, you just made my day. After my first drive in my 997S I knew it was the absolute best Porsche I hav.e ever driven. The balance and power just seemed as a perfect match. I've yet to do a high speed slaom - still working on some sort of breakin but am really anxious to give this baby a hard run.

This car is a dream to drive, ,the steering ratio quickens after the wheel is turned more than 30 Degrees, and the new trans and shifter is flawless. (stainless steel syncros). and a 15% shorter throw. the car is amazing.

The 997S is an unbelievable car in all aspects. Power, handling and braking all in one major increase in performance over the 993 and 996. Just press that SPORT button that 'shows" a shock absorber and you go from nice please sant ride to sharper handling and stiffer.

As a point of reference I have a 993 RS 3.8L streetcar/racecar that is faster and has more power than a 993 SUPERCUP car...............the 997S on the dyno belted out 47HP more than the 993RS................and that is thriough a street legal exhaust with cats. Whereas the 993RS is open exhaust no cats and 110octane racegas and nasty loud.

Porsche did an exceptional job on the 997 cars. They feel light and have handling and braking dynamics that are incredible.

I may sell this perfect low mileage 997"S" coupe foir a 997"S" cabriolet for the wife if anyone is interested.

have a great day
Joe
