Pulled My DME

I have had my car for a few months now and I asked the dealer to pull my DME data today while they were doing some maintenance. Here is what it showed

Range 1 - 3003 ignitions
Range 2 - 320 ignitions
Range 3 - 19 ignitions
Range 4 - 1 ignition
Range 5 - 1 ignition
Range 6 - 1 ignition

Range 1-3 is explainable with frequent redlines and a few late shifts. My question is can you have 1 ignition cycle in Range 4-6 or is this an error / anomaly in the DME report. If there are approx 350 ignition cycles per second I dont think its physically possible to be in Range 4-6 for 1/350th of a second, it would take a few seconds for the engine to rev down from that high of an rpm spike that would be most likely caused by a missed down shift.

Has anyone else seen this? Thanks for your input.

Scott.

I've seen a couple other members with similar scans. It's not physically possible to have a record of one like that in more than one range. Must be a glitch in the system. You are not alone though. Doesn't look like too bad a record on your car.

RYEM3,

I am planning to get the techart front lip and sideskirts - it looks like thats what you have also. Are you happy with them? How much is your car lowered?

Thanks.

Yep, I have the TechArt front spoiler and rockers. Ha, how much is the car lowered? Actually, full stock suspension. The kit does a great job of visually lowering the look of the car. The car seems a bit lower than a typical 997, but I think it may just be the look from the kit.
I think the front spoiler lowers the front 2-3". I think the ground clearance is similar to an aerokit, which means that it drags on many driveways and you will need to be cautious. Previous owner installed them when new, so they've lasted a while. seem very high quality. Check my turbo wheel thread for more pics of my car or let me know if you have other questions.

I didnt believe it when i got the report and we repulled the data - it was the same both times. It must be an error, its simply impossible to go from over 9000 rpms back to under 8000 rpms in under 1/350th of a second.

Another owner posted a scan with a bunch of ones in the upper ranges. Must just be a glitch, I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it.

Oh no! You have 1 range 4,5,6!!! The engines going to blow and you'll never be able to sell it in the future! (please read my sarcasm).

Really: It looks normal. The range 4,5,6 numbers are glitches. What are your total operating hours and when did those ranges 1,2,3 occur?

Thanks for sharing.

+1 My car is lowered 15mm with TechArt springs and your car still looks lower than mine. Here's a side profile of my car and your car (stock) looks lower.

(not to go to far off-topic but the OP did ask about TechArt sideskirts)

Hey Joe - very hard to tell from your pic. Heck if my car has other springs I would be stunned, it is pretty soft with the PASM not on Sport. If anyone wants to post fender lip to wheel center distances, I'll measure mine and post for comparison. I think it is really the visual effect of the kit. Also, some cars just ride lower than others. I'm happy I finally have one that rides lower than most.

Yeah, kind of tough to see in the pic as it's kind of dark and the angle is bad. Either way, your car looks great the way it is set-up. If that's stock, that's great and I know if my car came stock like that, I wouldn't have done the drop.

Thread highjack slightly, on a DME readout, what does the following DME reading mean:

Nmax stored for range 1
42 10.26 h
