The car will beep at you if the top isn't at it's limit position. Check your center display and you'll see the message about open / close, and if you stop the open / close procedure mid-cycle, it'll do nothing. Start to drive and it'll give you a message about not being at it's limit position or something, and it'll beep.

In case anyone is interested, but the $500 price has scared you away, the manufacturer has just reduced the price from $500 to $400, and there's a GB going on over at planetporsche.net which is pretty close to getting enough people to get and additional 20% off. So, for $320, given all the functionality this gizmo adds, it seems like a worthwhile purchase...

I signed up for that - for the coupe version RemoteKEY - only 3 features I need that aren't factory, but I reckon @ $250'ish, not bad. Install looks a little hairy, but patience should work it out.

I have the same concern, and am counting on the Smartop to help. it's worth it at the GB price IMO

The simpliest way for me is just to let the side windows rise a bit. Then just roll them down and you're good to go. You can save the $500 for other mods. I know most of the guys here, $500 is just a drop in the bucket. But $500 saved is $500 earned. Just my 0.02

I have not seen the indicator on the dash change but will look for it and check. It is annoying (not alot but still wtf?) that the windows going up is the indicator.

The indicator will only show is you have your seatbelt on. Otherwise the red "Fasten your seatbelt" will hide your indicator.

It looks like the bumperplugs price is $398. The group buy is $399-15%or20% discount. Is bumperplugs discounting further?

Right - that group buy is almost to 20% - I think they need one more person over there to get that discount.

I agree with the two previous posts, in addition one touch close/open switch is not safe, releasing the actual swith stops immadiately the top maneuver in case .....

You know it's not so much the $ 500 as the fact that almost all of it's other functions are already in the car. All it does that's of any value is eliminate the need to hold the button when opening and closing the top. Had one on my Boxster and loved it and all it did was open and close the top but it was only about half the price of the 997 version. As an update, I'm in on the GB on another site as the end price will be close enough to half the original
$ 500 price tag and much more realistic for what it does. As for the value of money, hey $ 500 is $ 500. I like to think I'm getting my moneys worth when I spend $ 500. It's the $ 100 K I spent on the car I didn't put much thought into.
