Cab Questions
Ive had my car for almost a month now its a 997.2 CAB... and when I drop the top Ive noticed that there is no signal/sign that lets you know the top is fully down. On other convertibles when the top is fully down theres usually a beep, or a signal on the dash that indicates the top is finished being lowered....the only signal I have is when the windows start rolling up...Is there any thing I can turn on to let me know the tops full lowered without waiting for the windows to raise? I hate that I have to wait for the windows to raise, and then I have to re-lower the windows...Any help is apreciated, Thanks Guys
I've noticed the same thing on my new 2008 Cab. In a previous post a few members commented about an aftermarket addition to the key-fob of one touch up, down, etc that might give more feedback with this.
Yeah, buy a SmartTop from http://www.wilhelmy-it.de/ -- the absolute best mod you can do to a 997 cab. It makes the incabin control one-touch operation, and makes it so you can raise/lower the top when you arm/disarm the alarm remotely from your key.
There's nothing quite so awesome as lowering the top on the car from 100ft away as you're walking to it.

Yup, SmartTop is an absolute must for Cab owners. Have one on my car. It actually has up to about 8 different functions that you can set including top up, down, how you want the windows to function after top has come down/up, alarm functions upon key activation (chirp, lights, etc.), and of course the ability to put your top up and down with your key fob standing 20+ feet away from the car is you want.

If you know how to operate a screwdriver you can do the install yourself. It takes all of about 30 minutes if you have no idea what you're doing and about 10 if you've done it before. I took pics when I installed mine if you want to get a feel for what's involved:

Thanks...but not all that helpful...I am interested in paying someone else to do it...soup to nuts...buying it from someone who can install it and if something is awry, they can service it...and program it, etc...
Anybody mention that it's a $ 500 gadget and that's if you install it yourself. I agree it's a very convenient addition but hard to justify considering that nearly all of it's other functions, with the exception of the one touch open and close feature, are already built in to your Cab. For me paying for the other features just to get the one button open/close isn't worth it. Now if they'd come up with a simple one touch open /close relay at half the price that would be easier to justify. Better yet Porsche should include that function in the relay that comes in the car. Probably a liability issue.
It is pricey, but I do believe it's well worth it - for the single value of the one-touch top function. I hated having to hold the button, while putting on my seatbelt, lowering the e-brake, engaging first, and driving away - at the same time.
For me, it was more than a 30 minute install, but I was being very careful and enjoying the work.
However, none of these posts address the OP's question about an indicator to note when the top is down and locked. The answer is that there isn't any. Sorry. However the car can be driven while the top is in motion, so long as it's under 20 MPH or so. So nailing it exactly isn't really necessary.

I agree totally that it ought to be the way the car works from the factory, but really $500 is cheap if you compare it to all the other goofy and ridiculous options we all pay for in these cars which have even less value. People pay thousands of dollars for supple leather floor mats and suspension bushings paint to sample. $500 (about the cost of one rear tire) for some really nice electronic features and conveniences seems like a reasonable value, relatively speaking.

Is it really necessary to have to justify at all for a $ 500 gadget when you are driving around in a $ 100k car, come on now lol. I installed one in my cab and I agree with others that this is the best mod I have done to date !!!

Gee, my $500 yak fur center console seemed like a bargain. Course not as much as my $8000 faux cf 21" 30 lb wheels. Center caps optional.

It's more useful than the Sport Chrono at half the price.

- Once the windows start raising, the top is all the way down - no need to wait for the windows to go all the way up.
- There is a symbol in the display -- at least mine does; it says 'Opening convertible top' and this disappears immediately before the windows start to go up
