What to get after the C2S: GT3 or TT
What to get after the C2S: GT3 or TT
i have looked into both cars, read their specs, read the mags, seen test videos, checked them out in person, and i still cant decide between a 997.1 GT3 or 997.1 TT as a replacement for the C2S.
im not considering the 2010 models because though they are within my budget, i dont enjoy cars as much when i have too much money into them and taking the new car depreciation.
i drive my cars and dont store them so i need to know that i got them at a good price.
right now, the GT3 and TT can be had for about the same money. car will be used for weekend fun, some road trips, back road twisties but not really the track. though i dont feel one needs to track a gt model to get enjoyment out of it.
turbo: i like the power, the mod potential of a turbo car, the wide body, full leather interior. i dont like that i will have to mod the suspension and exhaust to suit my tastes (more money), dont like that the rear wing and front bumper look less aggressive than the GT3, and dont like the wheels or their sizes.
GT3: love the engine note, the rolling stock, the fact that i wont have to tinker with the suspension, the aggressiveness of the look. dont like the NB as much as the WB, no back seat is a +/-, less power and potential for power, heavy clutch, and maybe noiseness/harshness when im not in the mood.
i cant decide!!!!!! what to do

Honestly, consider a 2009 C2S with Sport PASM. I had a 2007 C2S and went to a 2007 GT3. Great track car, not so great a street car. Test drove a 997.2 Spasm and between the new suspension, LSD, and engine was sold. So yes, me, a track junkie actually got rid of a 997.1 GT3 for a 997.2 C2S and would make the same decision again. About 6k miles on the 09 now with about 50/50 street vs. track and really enjoying the balance.
Bara,
I think that it is funny you are talking about mods on a turbo, I seem to remember you saying that you wouldn't mod your C2S! I think that Ron is right, if you are a track guy get the GT3 without a doubt, if you are a street only do the turbo. If it were me, I would be all over the GT3 for sure, but then again I track my car a lot.

i have seriously looked into the 2010 C2S. its a great looking car with some nice upgrades. my problem is i have gotten used to my aero kitted C2S below and its hard for me to take a step backward in looks when im looking to upgrade to something new. the base car looks a bit mundane in comparison.
northvan, i said mod 'potential'

I live in S. CA where P cars are literally a dime a dozen and where we benefit from excellent roads in very good condition (relative to the mid west and back east).
I've not driven a 997 turbo but assuming the experience isn't too dissimilar from the 996 turbos I've driven... GT3 all day long.

from reading the GT3 and turbo forums, i sense that GT3 owners are either more passionate about their cars or that the GT3 is a very special porsche. turbo owners dont seem to heap on as much praise for their cars.
care to list your reasons? too many people seem to think (though i disagree) that its a waste not to track a gt3.
Primary car - Turbo
Secondary car - Gt3
I realize that a lot of normally aspirated guys are non Turbo lovers (and visa versa BTW) .. but simple truth is that in real world driving the Turbo offers a lot. It's faster than anything on a roll . It's comfortable and the biggest compliants by the NA guys are 1) the throttle and 2) the AWD .
1) The throttle actually feels like a jet and once it'spooling the rush is this face smearing acceleratin that feels like someone pulled the road out from under you . I love it !!!
2) The AWD --it does rain , and in some areas it snows plus to manage the ultra high Hp attainable with mods it serves to assist the average driver which is needed on the street .
I understand that you don't like the wheels . I didn't as well . I also love the Techart on the Turbo but actually prefer the 997S stock appearance.
You will have to spend more money though . In my opinion the least expensive is flash, an exhaust and suspension but it won;t stop there . In fact just call it a aday and set aside another 50K to open up some potential and save the interior, wheels and aerokit for last because you'll have spent the 50 before then.
To get it right .. out of the box
EVT700
Damptronics and Gt2 sway bar
Gt2 clutch conversion with the stage 4 ckutch
Tubi race exhaust ..
Brembo BBk
You will look at your last car and realize that the Turbo just ate it for dinner.

I owned an '08 GT3 for a few months... My first 911 actually. Fun car for sure. Ground clearance was an issue for me, used to scrape the chin spoiler everywhere I went and couldn't make it up or down my driveway without scraping it pretty badly either. Knowing the car did not have stability management (psm) I didn't exactly feel comfortable driving in the rain either. Just didn't work out. Put a few hundres miles on it and sold it for $12k more than I bought it, ah, the good old days.
Turned around and got an '08 C4S to replace it. Different story, don't have to worry about much at all, rain, ground clearance and ramps, lack of stablity computer, I drive it hard in any weather.
I do miss the wail of the GT3 motor, the crisp gear shifter and the overall excitement of driving the GT3, there are not too many cars like it out there. The C4S keeps me happy enough though, not quite as fun as the GT3 was but a more practical daily car that is still fun to drive.
If you are chosing between the GT3 and the Turbo, the Turbo is a great all weather daily driver that is a bit more practical than a GT3 but while being faster overall it is not going to be quite as stimulating as the GT3. The GT3 is plenty quick though for street driving.
It boils down to what your priorities are.

I sold the Turbo about a year ago. It's a great daily driver, but was just a bit too "soft" for my taste. Plus, it's much more fun with the high-revving NA engine. Still have the 7GT3 and love it. Go with what works best for your lifestyle
it depends on your life style, i like the turbo 08.... looking to purchase that next, let me know how it goes. gt3 is awesome, but unless you are going to the track, or speeding to work everyday( because you are going to want to all day everyday with that car, i say get the turbo, 4 wheel drive plus power, you cant beat that)
