Weird electrical issue today.
Got in my car after visiting Lowe's and got the "unlocking Steering Wheel" message. Took awhile to get the car to start because the steering wheel thing cuts off the ignition for some reason while it's deciding whether it will let you drive off or not. For the life of me I can't imagine what this Warning Light is supposed to protect me from. Anyway, got the car to start after several readjustments to the steering wheel to make sure it was dead straight and the information line in the pod screen, just under the digital speed indicator was four short dashes and nothing else. Stayed like that all the way home. Computer info line was working fine. After I turned if off and let it sit awhile all was back to normal. Odd to say the least as I can't imagine one thing having to do with the other but with all the computers in these cars I suppose program gremlins are to be expected.
hmmmm thats strange. Have not seen or heard of this one....
Do you use the steering wheel as leverage when you get out? Do you put a lot of force on it? You might have overcome the lock a little when you hopped out. I use the steering sometimes for leverage and often wonder if I could ever overcome the lock.

It also took my local dealer over 2 days to find the problem. They finally traced it to the wiring loom behind the dash. It had been chafing against one of the dash supports and this had finally worn through some of the cables in the loom. These were now randomly shorting-out against the bodywork. The dealer repaired and re-routed the loom and all has been fine since.
Whether this (or something similar) could be the cause of the problem you experienced, I can't say for sure, but the initial symptom is the same. Also as my car is a right-hand drive UK model, it may be the potential for this kind of issue with the loom is totally different. It would possibly be worth asking the dealer to look at this area if you get more issues, however.
Another Weird Electrical? Issue
My 2007 has been making a rumbling sound in the driver's side door. I'm assuming that it is coming from the door radio speaker. My 997 has the standard Porsche sound system. It's strange that I can sometimes hear the sound when I enter the car and before I even put the key in the ignition.
Anyone with a similar problem?
