New porsche 997s in the garage!!

Picked her up and enjoyed a nice ride home. PDK is awesome and the primary reason I got the car for a DD. Shifts are quick and sharp. Didn't really get on it, want some sort of break in period. Ride firm but not harsh..did take the NJTP. Surprisingly good head room(I'm tall). Seats supportive and comfy. Pretty good road noise level also. Will get back to you on the real important driving impressions after I open her up

Quick question. Is it worth it to purchase the basic protection plan? It covers: -dent and ding repair
-windshield repair
-tire and rim coverage (even
repairing curb rash)
-roadside assistance
It will also cover replacing a bent wheel even if the tire is OK. $1,240+tax..total $1,340 What do you guys think?

Nice

I can't wait to play with a PDK P-Car, must be fun. As for the warrantee, personally I'd pass on it, unless you've experienced these issues on a regular basis, my 2 (pre 1982) cents worth.

Congrats !!

I would not the protection plans . Most are great at accepting money but even better at finding reasons to weasel out of fixing things.

Congrats on the car. It is customary to show pics.

Roadside Assistance - you should have that already with 1-800-Porsche that comes with the car - sort of insulting that they try to sell it to you again.

Windshield Repair - most insurance covers that with a low ($100 maybe) deductible - check your insurance.

So those two you probably already have paid for unless they are adding something really sweet "feature" to the deal; like RA in 30min or less and Windshield installed by SI swimsuit models.

Tire and Wheel is probably a good thing - a major incident could cost over $1000, but should not be $1340 for the insurance.

I had a really good experience with having purchased tire and wheel protection. I had a nail stuck in one of my rear tires, and when the dealer tried to replace it they couldn't find a matching ContiSport2 so they called PCNA and I ended up with a whole new set of Michelin PS2s, all for $75, plus the $400 of the tire plan. Of course I still have coverage so if I run into anymore problems I'll be ok.

Tell me about it - head room in 911 is awesome! It was the very first comment from my wife as well - it feels so roomy inside, and front windshield edge is not against your eye level like in viper or corvette.

As of best protection plan IMHO - find good shop and do full clear bra on her - it will protect car much better than any 'plan'.

Tire plan can be worth it, generally do not expect curb rash to be covered, pot hole is the magic word.
Not familiar with dent and ding repair plans, Windshield and roadside generally not needed. Does the plan extend for 3-4 years past Porsche warranty and 10-40K additional miles?
generally they are ripoff's.
I have purchased an EasyCare plan that included Wheel and tire and upgraded the factory warranty to 7 yrs and 60K miles. for about $2500.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I will definitely post pics after a good wax this weekend.
Driving in ny and nj you certainly have your share of horrendous roads and I have already used the road hazard plan 3x on my 63. The dealer insisted curb rash is covered(repairing not replacing wheel), even when i pressed him several times about it. Also wheels are covered if you hit a pothole and bend the rim even if the tire is ok. (I have an extensive history involving tires and wheels!!). I am not concerned about the other coverages(windshield, dings etc) I want to get it solely for the tire & wheels. For me just the piece of mind knowing I have coverage will make me feel better.
Will also hit the track after a couple hundred more miles of break in.

The plan does extend and when I hand the car back in supposedly I get money back(pro-rated) for the amount of time not used on the plan.

I'd pass...as most have already mentioned, you don't do these types of repairs too often. If you do scrape a wheel, it shouldn't cost more than a few hundred buck to repair it. Same with windshield. If there's a chip, there are repair guys that will fix it for $75-150 depending on the extent. Save your money, get some good detailing products, give her a nice bath and facial, and drive.

Soon after I purchased the wheel and tire plan for my Carrera S, I picked up a nail in my right rear tire. When the dealer went to replace it, they realized that my left rear was 50% worn. So they replaced both at no cost to me! Money well spent! A friend suggested doing doughnuts in the Home Depot parking lot next time I need new tires!
