Switch to Light Weight Battery?

Hey everyone, I was looking at Suncoast's website and I saw the light weight batteries. It said: "Weigh your stock battery, it's probably around 50 lbs", and it got me thinking...

Did anyone ever weigh their batteries? Do you know how much it weighs by any chance?

And which battery would be right for a DD 911? There are a lot of choices... Here's the link:

Thanks!

Interesting...those prices are WAY lower than what I saw about 6 months ago for lightweight batteries ($800-1200). Wonder what the catch is? Or if battery technology/mass production of the LW batteries has resulted in lower prices?

A lot of weight reduction bang for the buck if this is the new paradigm in batteries.

Anyone tried this brand, and which one did you go with?

Stock batteries must easily weigh 50lbs or more. Fricken back-breaker to lift that sucker out while standing in the front trunk.

I don't know what the prices were but these prices are really sweet!

The new GT3 RS has the option for a Light Weight Battery, saving 24lbs off the stock! Which is pretty awesome considering that you are only changing the battery...

I want to hear whether people have tried this brand, and their experiences. I want to know if there are any downsides to it...

What about this: Lithium Ion Battery Powered Porsche GT3 RS
I wonder if it will be available and perform for daily drivers?

Looking to shed a few extra pounds, from an already lightweight set-up, Porsche gives buyers of the 2010 911 GT3 RS a new “electrifying” option. At 22 lbs lighter than a conventional led-acid battery, Porsche’s optional Lithium Ion power pack is designed with the track in mind.

If it's Porsche, it will be really expensive

Thing is, if you lighten the weight in the front end, it will shift the weight bias even more towards the rear. The only weight I'd want to save is in the back end - that's why they have the battery in the front. If you reduce the weight of the car everywhere, that's a different story, a la the GT3 RS.

You are exactly right! But I have already taken out the rear seats and will be installing AWE Cats & Mufflers in a week and a half

So my car is already on a diet!

The cranking power is low. Have your AAA card handy for daily/semidaily driving.

Well it is not the few lbs, it starts like that, 25lbs from the rear seats, 30-40lbs from exhaust system, another 20-30lbs from light weight battery, and you end up saving big numbers!

Please explain the hassles, that is why I posted this topic I want to learn more

If you check out the website they have a lot of different models with different power outputs.

this was a excellent thread, i never even thought of saving weight by swapping out batteries, wow they come up with everything now a days. ryem3 brought out a good point, i think if i'm not going to the track 6 times a year , then it wouldn't make much sense to swap out batteries, just my thoughts.
p.s does this void out the warranty if something electrical goes wrong with the car.

Yes, he did point on an important issue. But as I have already said I have removed the rear seats, and will swap out my exhaust system which will save me some weight

I have no clue about the warranty, excellent question!

I've been using Braille batteries for the last few years. Their performance compared to a traditional battery is transparent, but the weight savings is astounding. I even have one in my 2008 3/4 ton Suburban.

Thank you! You are the first person with first-hand experience!

Which model would be right to use with a daily drive C2S?
