I recently purchased this 2005 911 and the ad said there was a navigation system. When I got to the dealer the salesman told me it could be added for about 3K. The car has the screen, the controls and the place for the two disk. I found the disk on ebay for this year and model, so does anybody know if I purchased the disk if it would work?
If there is something else I should look for
please let me know.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

When you say "the place for two disk" are you refering to the CD storage slots in the glovebox? If so, those don't do anything except hold CD's.
Under the hood and behind a opening panel there would have to be a DVD drive for the car to actually have nav.
All 997 Carrera's come with the screen and controls/buttons, but without the nav module and DVD drive your car would not have navigation. $3K is about the going rate for the factory setup.
My car has it, but it is not that great. The Garmin I have for my other vehicles is nicer to use.

Wow . . Bought a used car (doesn't matter if it's a 997) and didn't check out the functions throughly?
Shame on you! If you bought it from a auto dealer and they mislead you you have might have some $$$$ recourse. As 'johnstoy' suggested look into the trunk compartment for the NAV DVD unit. It's located behind the trim panel on the drivers side. Better yet find someone 997 savvy and ask them to walk you through the car's operational and functional features.
Good luck . . . . .

If it is not listed - take a picture of equipment in your trunk to check but most likely it is not there.
if you do not have it - suncoast porsche sells complete navigation kit for $2.5K something, to get it installed at dealer is about 4-5 hours of labor. I did it. There is cheaper way - if you find correct DVD unit on Ebay (exact part number depends of you car manufacturing date and car type - there are vertical mounted units, horizontal units, there are different types of them, it is complicated) then you`ll need cables, harnesses, GPS antenna - it is easier to buy a complete kit. If you have '05 car newer DVD kit may not work , you may need previous generation one as PCM 2.1 was updated after 06/06.
