Launch Control for us manual owners

Found this pretty interesting. Any manual owners use this technique?

Haha C&D guys are nuts. I remember when the 997S first launched as the 05 model they drove it and got a 3.9 0-60 time out of it. Reading the article they were launching the car at 6500rpms hahaha. Not to say I wont try this though

I'm not brave enough to risk the damage...would be tempted to try it at a lower rpm though, say maybe 3500.

Nice. Thanks for the link. Surprised C&D is facilitating the breakage of many a tranny. I'd love to try it but don't have the cajones.....

I loved the last sentence - leave the launch to the experts (parking valets). Haha, one of the reasons I don't valet manual cars

I'd never have the ***** to do that in my manual!

I can almost smell the burning clutch as I am typing!

I've done this in the past, and it works pretty well.

Not suggesting we race these things off the line on a regular basis, but a little axle hop now and then isn't going to kill the car either.

Yeah I've done it. You do not smell any clutch as long as you know how to dump it.
Anyway, there's some wheel hop then it totally hooks up.

I've experimented with launching at different RPMS and there is a sweet spot for where it goes without the hop. It's really not that big of a deal guys.

Could you let us know what your experience has been regarding the sweet spot for launching with minimum hop? And what's your technique for dumping the clutch?

In a previous issue of C&D when testing a 911, the writers ( testers) said....." you don't do clutch drops in a car you intend to keep"!

I rev it up a little bit, and let go of the clutch quickly. When you find the sweet spot you'll know. It takes a few tries.

As far as the clutch technique I think I keep it right before the engagement point, not quite all the way in. I'm sorry I don't know how to explain it, I just do it.

You should at least try in once or twice. It also helps you learn the car.

Sounds like we do almost the same thing already. I was looking to see if you did it differently, based on your descriptions I think I already do something similar to you! Thanks anyway - appreciate you taking the time to post.

Hmm...I wonder why the article doesn't report which was faster, the PDK or manual.
