Softronic ECU upgrade

Does it make stop and go traffic with a manual more difficult due to over sensitive throttle?

With my stock 997.2 C2 manual, roll on in first gear is already very difficult to do smoothly.

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,
David

no, it makes no difference in that regard. you will get used to your clutch quite soon, it took me some time as well to get used to it. after that stop and go traffic will not bother you much anymore. try to be gentle to your clutch during this period and try not to ride it too much.

It looks like alot of guys are getting Sport Mode on all the time. Im thinking of just keeping the SM as a option , so when i push that button

stop`n`go got nothing with sport mode, it`s just 911 clutch is quite stiff and to have that perfect instinctive feel on how to play with gas at exact moment when clutch engages without kangarooing car forward nor stalling it takes some time. when it comes together you will start car rolling smoothly without even thinking about it. sport mode differences engage a bit later, it is very noticeable after 3K rpm.

Not stop and go - roll on

To clarify, I meant rolling on the throttle when the clutch is already fully out. Example. Your in highway traffic that is not exceeding 15 mph. You stay in first and as you accelerate from say 6 mph up to 15, then decelerate down to 8 back up 15..etc etc.. , with the clutch out and your foot on the dead pedal, it is very hard to go from throttle closed to throttle open in first without being a little jerky.

Does the softronic make this process even less smooth is the question?

It's no biggie. If you want smoothness in traffic get a PDK. I'm just curious to hear what people think who are running the softronic on manual cars without sport chrono. For that matter, does anyone with Sport Chrono, with Softronic or not (sport mode functions as an equivalent to softronic in regard to boosting throttle sensitivity, I presume) find that driving in traffic is significantly less smooth with the sport button on?

Thanks,
David

I see. Now I understand. Now, softronic got probably nothing by itself to change about that, but, from what I`ve done to my car I noticed that after either new spark plugs or plenum install I got my car moving much smoother at extremely low speeds.

For what it`s worth it is not nearly scientific, just my personal observation. It may be related to somewhat else as well as I also got oil changed about same time, but it still feels like first time I noticed that was on next day after plenum install as I drove back from my in-laws in bad traffic and noticed that car was going 5mph on first gear without any jerkiness.

I have a 997.1 with a standard shift. I would guess that the clutch & transmission on the 997.2 are nearly the same. Driving smoothly in stop & go traffic takes some practice. The clutch is hydraulically actuated and fairly soft. It only needs to be slipped very little and that only in first gear. Try to let it up quickly and, when it begins to engage, feather it in rapidly. Correct use of the throttle is more important than the clutch. There is a large gear reduction in first gear and you must accelerate or let up gradually. Do it fast either way and the car can buck. The car will coast along in first gear with the throttle completely closed and pull away smoothly.

I think OP is asking whether the mod makes the throttle response too sensitive for smooth low speed driving and throttle application in traffic While I doubt that it does, this Q makes the point I have raised wrt ecu mod, namely that it is impossible to tell (by the seat of your pants at least) whether the mod does anything other than change the throttle tip-in to give you a sense of more performance, ala sport mode. If you can't tell by the feel you have to trust the dyno.....and we all know where that discussion goes

Softronic retains your factory Sport Mode option. If you do not have Sport Mode, they can enable it. Having this on my 997TT, in "stop and go" traffic the car is much more sensitive so it bucks if you are not smooth on the clutch with Sport Mode on. Since the Softronic ECU flash does not change anything here, your car will act the same.
