New 09 base vs CPO '07S and CPO 0
New 09 base vs CPO '07S and CPO 0
Looking at nicely optioned cars. Feel power is going to be very close with more creature comforts to the '09. Looking to put 15k miles per yr. Would you guys stay away from the DFI and let them work out any bugs. Getting great discount on '09 (20% off / 71K car) and seems best price on '07 S with 22K is 59.9 (down from 64.9). Positive I will never get such a discount on a new Porsche. Seems dealers are still delusional about their CPO cars prices. Hard to justify only spending 11k less for a three yr old car with more than 20K miles. Shouldn't there be a trickle down effect on CPO prices??? Need you all to weigh in!
You guys have provided me with a wealth of knowledge as I search for my Porsche. My wife's Cayenne needs a stable mate
Here are the cars I am considering. Details on both cars. Am I crazy with what I feel the cars are worth.
The 'S 07 has the following options: Meteor gray over black supple leather. 22k miles with CPO till 6/2013. Price $59.9K. Dealer says this is their lowest number. I think $54-56K is realistic. 3 year old car.
X54 - Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes
982 - Supple Leather Front and Rear
267 - Self Dimming Mirrors
P15 - Power Seat Package
446 - Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
670 - Navigation for PCM
342 - Heated Front Seats
680 - Bose High End Sound Package
692 - Remote CD Changer (6 Disc)
Also has center console and shift in aluminum.
Dealer knows both former owners. Clear bra and clear side markers. Inside looks better.
Base '06 Red $52.5 28K miles. CPO till 9/2012. Thinking upper $40's.
P77 - Leather Sport Seats
Z0997 - Custom Tailoring
680 - Bose High End Sound Package
446 - Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
405 - 19" Carrera Classic Wheel
CFX - Floor Mats With Colored Trim
X97 - Gear Shifter Aluminum
XAA - Aerokit
P74 - Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package
CPT - Storage Lid Bin W/Porsche Crst
342 - Heated Front Seats
Car from auction. PA area. No history.
New car 09 Meteor over black leather seats.

While I don't have a huge wealth of knowledge regarding realisitic prices for different model years and different options, I can share with you my experience. When I was look for my C4 I found the similar situation, higher CPO prices than you'd expect. After looking for what felt like forever, my sales guy at Paul Miller (great guys by the way) called me with info on the car I eventually purchased. For posterity's sake, mine is an 06 C4 Coupe with the following:
Full Leather Interior
Bose Sound
6 Disc Changer
Sport Shifter
Bi Xenon headlights
19' Carrera S wheels
Stainless Steel Illuminated Door Sills
Power Heated Seats
5300 miles on the clock
Black w/Black interior
got it for 57.5k
In my case, it was exactly the car I was looking for and it looked brand new. From what I've seen, the C2S and C4 seem to hover around a similar price point, with the 4's holding a bit of premium here in due to the occasional incliment weather. My opinion (potentially dangerous, haha) would be that if the dealer won't come down on the 07 a bit, then the new 09 is a a great way to go. The bluetooth is much improved and based on a test drive, seat ventilation...straight killer. Hope this helps you in some way. Best of Luck

The big difference is S versus Basecar -should be about a $5000 consideration
The other thing to consider is Sales Tax - buying the new one will cost you about (depending on the state) about $6000 and you could buy a used one from a private seller without sales Tax.
Thus, you should be able to find a 2007 with less than 15,000 miles for about $20k less than the new one - pretty significant amount of money if you ask me.
Or you can get a 2006 S for about $50k with low miles and some warranty left.
Having said this, if you have the money go for the new one, brilliant to have a new car ...
(here is another consideration - Aston Martin Vantage about 2yrs old - just saw one with 2800miles and less than 15months on the road for $72k)

I picked up an '07 base 2 months ago with 15k miles for $49.5k.
Options are: clear bra, nav, bose, leather, 19" Carerra Classics, painted crests, aluminum trim, heated seats, xenons, stainless pipes, power seats, basalt black on natural brown
My research (ie. after bargaining) indicated that an S should be about $5-6k more. I went with the base because I do not plan to track the car...it's my DD.
Good luck.

no brainer is correct unless you have to worry about $$$ - $15-20k more initially plus probably $8-10k per year more in depreciation.
If money is no object, go for the 4S or TT ...

I'd vote 'New', mostly for 4 years peace of mind, but since you already know Porsches the 07 for 20 grand less (including tax, title, etc.) seems attractive. With your projected annual driving you better check the mileage limitation on the CPO. Finally, if you decide to dump it in 3-4 years, an 07 with 70-80,000 on the odometer won't be worth $25k whereas the 09 might be in the 45k neighborhood.
20K is significant money to say the least, will need to get a third car b/c I currently drive about 30K total per yr. Everyone says it is plain stupid to drive a 911 30k miles a yr. Would split the miles between a commuter car and the 911. Live in central NC (Raleigh) so weather is not terrible, rare to occasional snow with more frequent ice storms. Hopefully, this will be from first of many Porsches for myself (36 yrs old). Wife loves her Cayenne S and does not want to drive anything other than a Porsche, got her hooked!
. She was a former BMW girl. We did the Panamera driving experience with local dealer and she would have bought that if not for the purchase of the pepper this April. Amazing sedan!
I guess it is good to have this problem and very fortunate to be DINKS and making a good living in such rough economic times.
Life is too short to drive crappy cars and drink lousy beer.
Cheers,
Chris

I would go for the 09. Lots of nice new upgrades in the 997.2, power of base is close to the the 997.1 S, and peace of mind of having a brand new car. Potentialy it has better resale in a few years as well as people start looking for the 997.2 in the used market.
Perhaps I don't have as much context as some veterans here. Just bought my 06 cab s about a month ago. I think I got the best of both worlds as mine only had 9K miles (56K). However, one common attribute I've seen from the true P-Drivers on this site is most tend to get mods on their cars. Having said that, you might consider the used one and do CPO to allow for more mods. Not only can you use your savings from new for mods, you will see far less depreciation. After only a month of ownership, I'm already finding some interesting mods to pursue...
Your question seems to be whether to go with the 07 C2S or the 09 C2. The power is about the same but the new car has obvious external and mechanical changes. Only you can judge whether the extra $22 grand (diff + extra sales tax) is worth it. Probably is considering the high milage you add.....This can potentially be offset by getting into an extremely low mile 07 as another alternative.

unless you buy a cheap beat-up car with a Diesel engine, you might be better off (and with a bigger grin on your face) buying the 911 and just driving it - these cars are rock-solid, the engine is made to last and usually people who drive 30,000miles a year don't do it on the racetrack or doing stop and go in the city, but on long stretches on the highway - thus, what is the downside to using the 911 (unless you mind the noisier cabin?).
you can sell the 2009 911 with 90,000miles on it in three years for probably around $30,000; thus your annual cost is roughly $15k
If you buy it and only drive 45,000 miles the remaining value is about $45k (all prices from KBB), thus annual cost of about $10,000
The question is, what kind of car can you buy, depreciate, insure and maintain for $5000 per year (make sure you include interest payments or if you pay cash capitalize your interest) if you buy a second car in addition to the Porsche - especially as you seem to be someone who enjoys driving nice cars (agree on the Panamera by the way, fabulous car).
Would not worry about Porsche' breaking down from high mileage - 50% of all Porsche ever build are still on the road for a reason ...
