Before you get overly concerned about the C4Ss' "slowness" drive one on a track sometime and hold on tight. Good luck
Here's a view you might see from a 997 (blurry on purpose)

While the C4S is arguably a better car than the new 997, I would not discourage anyone from buying a preowned Porsche.

The fact is that Porsches are no longer the "exclusive" sports cars that they once were. There are as many 911s produced as Infiniti FXs these days.

That being said, you can save boatloads of cash by buying a used Porsche.

Case in Point: a new Turbo averages $120K-$140K. You can get a 3 year old Turbo for ~$75K - $85K.

It would have to be a Porsche certified specimen, still you don't really know what that car went through, break-in, etc. 80K is just a lot of cash for a used car. I'm not discouraging it, just if you can afford a new one you're better off. JMO

Just to recap...you live in Califonia, is AWD necessary? Or would a C2S work? If a C2S works, but you want turbos, get a GT2. But you want to keep the price down, get a GT3. But the new headlights and warranty would be nice, get the 997. Need a little extra speed, get the 997S. Wow, for the same money you could have a used 996TT. But you live in California, is AWD necessary.

:-)

Shopping is half the fun, drive them ALL!

Hey Synergy,

Seems like all the CL'ers are over here on 6speed! I know a 6speedmember with a SERIOUSLY modded 02 Turbo. The car is one of my favs, bar none.

If you can, consider the Turbo.

go for a 997S

I have had my 997S for about a month now, and it is incredible. It is a vast improvement over my C2. It might be a shy in power compared to a turbo, but I think it is just as fast a GT3. It is more planted than a C2, which is what you might be looking for as an alternative to AWD. Just my .02.

Yeah I want the S bigtime! If I could convince a dealer to sll me one with Nav for under $85K out the door then I would probably pull the trigger. I am wondering when the California dealers will start negociating below sticker? Maybe when the cabs come out? I know, I know...supply and demand
