996 or 997 - what to do?
I am excited about someday owning my first Porsche and was sold on a 2003 C4S but then did something stupid and am now not sure. what to do....
....I went to the autoshow and saw the incredible 997 and then noticed the nice upgraded interior.
What to do now? Is the 997 (not the S model) worth $15 - $20k more than a C4S? Will I notice a big performance gap between the two?
Thanks for the help, I am really torn now that Porsche went with the wide body on the 997.

If you are open to preowned vehicles - go for a used 996 Turbo. If you want to own something out of the box, you can probably find 996's for big discounts. The 997 is the same as the 996 from the power perspective, but there are vast improvements in suspension, steering, transmission. The styling in and out is subjective.
I think he's talking about one of the new C4S 996s' still on the lots. I would get the C4s over a plain 997. Probably get a better deal on a BETTER car. The 997S is different.
Don't buy a used car,( somebody else's trouble) if you can afford new. JMO

I would go for the 997 since this is the "next generation" 911. I know that people can get attached to their porsches, but simply put, the newer ones are always better.

A 997 is a newer design lighter and better handling then a C4S, get a 997. Forget a used Turbo as well you will never find one for the money you are going to spend on a new 997

I find it hard to believe that a rock stock 997 will outrun a C4S. I recall the C4S ran the ring faster than the plain 997.
You don't want a used car , do you? Even if it is a turbo.

He is talking about an 03 C4S, not a new one.
I have always liked the C4S, but it is the slowest, heaviest of all the 996s.
To say it would swallow a 997 on the track or any where else for that matter is a pretty bold statement! how do you figure?
the 997 is faster, lighter, quicker steering, and more slippery.
Have you driven the new Carrera? I'll bet not....
