I've been in New England for 16 years with at least half of those driving only Porsches year-round. The low ground clearance was probably the worst of it. Ice and snow packs up in wheel wells then drops on the road, creating an autocross situation on the way to work! Also, ice freezing the front trunk shut and snow packing up the air vents over the engine. My '84 911 had a euro-option heated windshield that was WAY nice to have! I've never seen another like it. Now, the old '74 911s couldn't melt the ice off the INSIDE of the windshield...

 

last couple of winters, i just go for a 35 to 50 mile drive on non winter tires every once or twice a month. thats my winterization of my '02 996 turbo and it's been fine. basically i drive it when it's a nice day with clear roads.works for me

 

I might take mine out one last time tomorrow before I tuck it away until March. I usually store it covered with a battery tender.

Although rust really isnt a concern, the salt and sand scar the paint on my daily driver every winter. It gets depressing. I can't bear to have a second car with sandblasted paint and stone chips on all the leading surfaces.

 

Park the car and drive the 'burban.

 

Drive it, with M+S tires on it... but only when you feel the rest of the traffic out there is relatively sane.

 

I have set with snow tires but will not drive it on salty roads much, hopefully. Will see.
