DME thoughts - 07 C2S coupe CPO 8500 miles

pretty loaded except std leather
Nav
PSE
Stick
Chrono
power sport seats
etc etc

DME shows 1 Level 3,4, & 5 ignition at 229.5h 98 level 2's and 1405 level 1's.

What do you guys think? The color and options are perfect, but don't know what to think about that DME...

What are the total hours on the car? This can tell you when the level 3,4,5 ignitions occurred. My guess is was fairly recently and somebody beat the **** out of it on a test drive.

I would pass if the car has been on a dealer's lot for awhile. Too many aggressive test drivers out there. Some are even the sales guys.

I for one have been schooled on this forum and would pass based on the level 4 and 5 ignitions. Could give Porsche a reason to deny warranty claim down the road.

Given perfect color and options I'd buy. 1 over rev in 3,4,5 does not make any sense to me. If they are willing to do CPO then no worries.

Good Luck!

UCLA -You have been looking at cars for close to if not more than a year . Why woild you pick a car with any blemish at this late point and at the height of inflated asking prices ?

I actually bought another car in May - but I always am looking for a good car to add to my stable. However I'm not really sure why my personal situation is relevant anyway. I actually find it kind of creepy that you're keeping tabs on everyone here. Maybe I should move to rennlist?

In any event I'm not sure why you care anyway. Curious as to what people think about that 1 Level 3,4,5 ignition. It was at 229.5 hrs and the engine has just under 400 hrs on it.

Is the number of revs in 3,4,5 really reported as 1? That makes no sense and I would guess this is some kind of reporting error.

Yes 3,4,5 is 1 at 229.5h (so about halfway through the car's life so far) My guess is no reporting error, because then you'd see a 1 at 6 too, but 6 is blank. My guess is one very very bad shift. But I'm not a tech of course.

Ucla -
I am not 'keeping tabs" but if I take the time to reply to a pricing post I might remember who wrote it . If the same person is asking the same question repeatedly over a long period of time it won't change my answer --- but in this case you are asking about a car with engine over revs AND it's at a time period with higher CPO asking prices than in the past. Those two factors would be enough to pass on the car .

If you choose to "move to Rennlist" -I don't care .
Since I did not know that you bought a car in May I would still say congrats and hope that if you are looking for a second car that you find one to your liking .

Upper level ignitions of 1 are errors and have no significance. We've seen them before. You don't mention the asking price - the relative condition is a function of the relative price. The DME is nothing to worry about.

yrralis, i have been browsing for a 911 variant to replace my 2006 C2S before the warranty expires. (i am in miami also)

I think dealer prices on CPO cars have always been high.

Do you think they are even higher now for some reason? Seems to be loads of inventory.

Right now I'm torn between a 07,08 GT3, 09 C2S, or 07,08 turbo. I even bought a set of rear seats already to put in the back of the GT3 for the kids.

The prices of CPO cars have been very high since July . Regarding this thread -- the over revs were not the main issue but even though he did not mention price the entire market has been inflated . .

I feel part of the problem came from June sales data where the new car sales were so poor yet CPO numbers had risen . From that point the CPO cars took off upward in pricing . In the meantime the new car prices dropped and that's when we all saw 2009 cars being discounted and lots of forum members (including me) getting great deals (in July, Aug, Sept, Oct).

I believe it's a waiting game with the used market . These higher prices can not go on indefinitely and many of the cars listed have been on the market for months --especially in Florida . The used prices look a little better in California but they are still priced much higher than what I would expect .

Last year 2007 cars were selling in the low 60's and upper 50's . 2006 cars were selling in the low 50's .
Those prices have not changed and those cars are one year older , with less warranty and in some cases more miles . Plus there are less cars to choose from with ideal options . Even the Turbo has climbed.

GT3 all the way. many turbo owners get bored with their cars and get gt3's but the reverse is rare. unless you can address the many areas of attention of the turbo (like yarliss has done) skip the turbo and get a car with soul right out of the box.

the 09 C2S? still not the uber special cars like the GT models or even turbos

Just a Florida guess on my part --if one major dealership is met with bankrupcy it may disrupt buyer sentiment . Some may be hesitant to buy a used car from a bankrupt dealership .Used car purchases are not the same as a new car and even though CPO is a national program some buyers may have lost confidence based on bankrupcy. That stengthens the used car pricing at neighboring dealerships .

Also --dealerships can ask a price but that does not mean they will get it .

Shopping a used Gt3 is tough . The dealerships who have them at CPO are pricing them high . The indy lots have plenty but with a track car , non cpo, low miles .. it leaves some doubts . Even though some might argue that a track driver is more experienced with his Gt3 than the dentist driving his 997S to the supermarket --it's still a very different shopping experience . Also keep in mind that many of those Gt3 former owners paid top dollar for that car . It's a very different market (used or new) .

As for Turbo owners getting bored --I have seen just the opposite . If you look at the 993 and 996 Turbo forums many of those guys had their cars for many years and still savor the enthusiasm .

The problem with the Turbo is that the prices really dropped last year and now they have climbed . Plus to modify a Turbo adds another cost and it's really needed to bring the car to an amazing level .
