Anyone Else Notice PCM 3.0 is a little buggy?

I have noticed issues here and there on the PCM 3.0. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.

1. If you don't press the station selection hard enough, it highlights it and doesn't register the release causing it to program the button instead of switching to that station.

2. If you put the radio on mute and drive around for about 5min, the PCM resets itself!

3. If you Turn the volume to zero and drive around for a while, you can't turn the volume back on. You must select another source and then back to get the sound working again.

These are the few I have found in the short time I have owned the car. I mute or turn down the volume a lot so I can listen to the car. Is there a way to turn off the audio source and still leave the PCM on to use the map and the phone function? If I mute or turn the volume off, will I still hear route guidance or a phone call? Anyone else find any other issues?

Yeah, not very robust. I like it well enough but would expect less "WTF?" moments at this price point regardless of what makes a Porsche a Porsche.

Mine behaves exactly like that as well. I dont listen to the radio much so it isnt a nuscance yet. I usually use the IPOD or listen to the boxer engine.

Have any of you guys applied the Version 1.4 update to the PCM? I ordered it from Suncoast for $12.95 and installed it myself. I'm not sure whether that is responsible or not, but while my PCM has a few occasional glitches, it's nothing as frequent as what you guys seem to be experiencing.

I don't experience any of the problems stated and I'm on v1.4. I don't know if that helps.

No, I'm sure you could get the update for free by going to your dealer. For me, it was worth $12.95 to get it sent to my house, which was more convenient to me.

I spent months trying to get PCM 3.0 from draining my ipod battery to a deader going thru dealer (many trips, they were sick of seeing me, they don't get paid under warranty unless they fix a problem). Finally forced the issue HARD and regional P service got involved to help. Replaced the PCM. Ipod issue now gone. Dealer happy, owner happy. Moral of the story is there is a correct way the PCM is supposed to work and the issue may be your PCM and not you, your phone, your ipod, or your usb stick.

That said, an annoyance is you have someone in the car you are talking to, you mute the ipod audio to have the conversation, use the phone thru BT interface, end call, muted audio disappears and the volume is back on. You have to mute the audio again. Another is I get BT connectivity issues where the car sees the phone at one level but not enough to show signal, I use voice control to dial a number (even though PCM shows no signal), the PCM burps and does a full reboot, and then sees the phone. I'm just glad that they pay more attention to the traction management system than they do the QC on the PCM. I would hate to see traction contol reboot during a hard curve.

Can you tell me more details about the ipod battery draining? Mine does that too! I was hoping a simple update would work.

Anyone know if there is a separate PCM manual? Lots of the items under the "Options" menu in PCM is not documented and I am curious what they do. Like What is "TP"?

80GB, 5th gen ipod, original single cable connector (charges while car is on). Leave ipod plugged in, don't drive car for several days, fully charged battery is now dead as a...loses place in song or playlist. Reverts to album 1, song 1. PCM was waking ipod every 20 seconds thus not allowing ipod to sleep. Also burping with USB stick. Replace PCM, change settings in ipod to turnoff backlight. Ipod now sleeps peacefully, battery not dead after several days of no driving. USB stick now works correctly.

DUH! This whole time I was staring at the normal manual wondering why there is no PCM details!

I don't have SC+ so the individual memory settings for lights, locks and etc. are still not there. Interesting how the PCM manual says only the lap and log options should be missing without SC+, I wonder if these individual menus were disabled to make SC+ seem like it has even more features?

I use the Y Cable and the Ipod doesn't shut off. The ipod ends up being drained.

Now I plug the usb connector from the Y cable into the car and the ipod charges all the time now even when the car is powered off. The battery doesn't drain since it is always charging and the ipod never turns off! It is always draining the car battery.

Is this normal?

Should be. All these things are design choices - it's going to please some and disappoint others. That's life.
