My first Porsche..what do I need to know?

I bought a '08 Carrera S Cab (other details in my signature) and I plan to do the clear bra on the bumper to start. However, any others recommendations for me in terms of keeping it perfect? I would appreciate any help on what to watch for, how to detail the and protect the leather, etc. What tends to wear on the car that may be particular to this vehicle? For example, does anyone buy the Porsche detailing products? Thanks!

I bought the car on 12/21 and on 12/22 I flew to NJ to be with my family for the Holidays. I will have pictures up soon after I get back to CA.

I put a clear bra on mine. I love it except I went with the half hood version. I wish I had done the whole hood. During my first long drive, the hood was dinged about 5" below the top. Not too bad but I know it's there and it bugs me.
As to care, there is a great section on detailing on this forum. You can go as deep down the rabbit hole as you want. With a black car I would suggest pretty deep.
Enjoy the great car.

i agree, w/ a black car i would get the clear bar. Also I see you have the full leather so i would recommend some conditioner w/ SPF, especially on your dash. On the cab top, just keep it keep clean and weather protect it at least every 2 years. I usually wash the top w/ a clean wet microfibor w/ NO SOAP. Then follow it w/ a lint brush/roller. I have not used any Porsche products but Im GUESSING that its made by a 3rd party anyway.
Some Products I use:
Leather: leatherque, Zymol cleaner & COnditioner, Meguiars w/ aloe + sunscreen
Rubber Seals: Lexol rubber cleaner/protectant

Raggtopp: I will be buying this at the advice of other board members.

good luck!

Same thing happened to me. I recommend doing not only your bumper, but the whole hood.
Do some searches on these forums for detailing techniques. There is lots of useful info. I personally don't believe there is that much to pick and choose between detailing products, as most of them these days are good. Looking forward to photos, as yours sounds like it has great options. Love those cabs. I'm now looking for one again.

I have found that reading the owners manual will answer most of my questions.

1) Exterior cleaning - I feel that more important than which brand of car wash soap is the types of loofas and absorbers used .

2) Interior - I clean the seats with a little warm water and ivory bar soap . Some may laugh but it works well on my skin so why not on my car . I then use lexall conditioner . I do this process once every 6 months --if even that. More important is that I will not sit on any public chairs and clean everything that i sit on . This way no dirt gets on my clothes and ends up in my car . think of a baseball glove . It starts out all clean but no matter how much care it gets the dirt works into the leather .

3) once a year it gets a professional high end detail .

4) I did not clear bra my car. I thought about it but every car i have ever seen has that line and unless I were to track the car or drive it daily on roads with trucks then I would get it.

I have a clear bra and I will not drive behind trucks. Trucks kick up large stones and even a clear bra will get dinged.

If you want to do a clear bra send me a message as I know the best 3M installer in the Bay Area - CS Specialties. 3M is the best film available.

Re leather care: the less the better. I agree with (very lightly 1 drop) soapy water in a lightly damped cloth and never use Lexol unless you want shiny leather. Twice a year use Sonus leather conditioner (very lightly) to maintain the factory look.

Re rubber seals and plastics care: 303 Aerospace Protectant or better yet Sonus Total Eclipse.

I think I'm going with Premier for the clear bra. I have Lexol, but I like Sonus products, so I need to try their leather stuff. I have used their car soap and detail spray. I actually have the 303 for the seal and plastic, so thanks for the info. I will try the Sonus after I use up the 303.
