How to use real time traffic info.?

I have an 09' 997.2 with navigation and XM. I spoke to XM and specifically added their real time traffic service. When I look at the map in the car, local traffic conditions seem to be reflected (different colors for highways depending on flow etc..), but...if I go to the Info tab on the PCM and hit "traffic" the same 2 warnings appear for long term construction, nothing more. Shouldn't traffic jams and accidents appear on this list? There has been nothing but these same 2 warnings since August!.

Is this traffic tab in the info screen not showing data that the nav. could use to reroute you? I'd like to pull up the traffic tab and see a few new warnings to know that it works. Granted I live in metro Hartford, CT which has mediocre traffic coverage, but it's still on the coverage map.

Any suggestions. Are there settings for this, or am I not viewing the traffic data the correct way?

Thanks,
David

I think the list of traffic messages is market-dependent. In Dallas, I usually get a few pages of traffic messages ranging from construction to congestion to reported accidents.

I am in the Chicago market and I have a lot of messages show up on the traffic tab, but I haven't noticed any changes on the actual GPS map. Is there a certain view that you need to have the map on to see the local traffic conditions?

My traffic map automatically displayed the various colors/icons once XM Traffic was added. There may be options/selections via PCM, but I never took a look. Will check later once I get back in the car.

The traffic info that is displayed depends on what the local traffic authority publishes so that XM Navtraffic service can then broadcast it back down. If the police and responders are not pushing out what incidents happen where, then there is no way for navtraffic to send it to you.

But yes, in the info you should see the list of 'incidents'. Those incidents should also appear on your map view as icons (not sure if there is a PCM setting that controls whether or not that happens)
