Forums requests for carfaxs and people screwing around with passwords on craigs list have made carfax recently change their pricing policy...the unlimited 30 day option is no longer available...now its $45 for 5 carfaxs.

 

I just noticed the same.. This really sucks.. When shopping for a car sometimes you 10 of them..

 

I was told that carfax doesn't really even tell the full story. A car can be in an accident or even multiple accidents and still never show up on a carfax report.

 

Maybe they are raising prices because people share their accounts with others...

I would never relay on a CarFax report anyway.

 

Is there something better than Carfax? what is the best way to see a cars history?

Wow, that's pretty steep. You could easily run through 10-20 carfaxes or more when searching for a car. It's certainly not the end all-be all regarding a car's history, but it's a good start for looking at in service date, # and location of owners, etc-

 

That's what happens with all products when there's too much loss (stealing). This forum (and others) have strict policies not to violate the law, other company policies, etc. Therefore as a moderator at another forum when people ask for a free "CarFax" check, I have to enforce the rules and delete the post while gently enlightening the requester. I think AutoCheck has a similar pricing structure, though it's less expensive than CarFax. There may still be some sort of commercial account - I can't imagine car dealers going along with this sort of pricing structure.
