Tons here in Denver are sitting. Sales guy I know was telling me how slow they are moving. It scares him.

Teach them to screw people on trades is what I said

Yeah, the regular Carrera is a travesty. When 400 hp C6 Corvettes are running around, M3's, SLK's, etc. If they made the regular Carrera with the "S" specs they would have sold like hotcakes. The new "regular" Carreras are no better than the 3.6 996.

The C6 performance times are also marginally better than the S. The regular Carrera is a 996 with oval headlights.

I would so buy a 997 S with a few thousand discount, but no one is willing to negotiate. So i finally decided to go with Cayenne S and boxter. :-(
so if anyone knows of a 911 that is gonna go below sticker, shoot me an email.

Yeah the new C6 & 997 S are very close. Much the way the Porsche & Corvette used to be (993 vs. C4's, 996 vs. the C5's) The new "regular" Carrera isn't even in the same ball park as the new C6. The Carrera "S" will run almost neck & neck through sane speeds (up to 80/100) comparable/better brakes & handling. It would match up very against the C6 Z51 or the C6 MRSC version. The 997 S was a decent jump/advancement over the previous generation 996 3.6, the "regular" Carrera is not (like you said the oval headlights). That really makes the 997S about $10K overpriced. Great car, just what the "regular" Carrera should have been, they would have sold a ton of them. I think I will wait until they start offering substantial discounts before I think about a Porsche again.

Why couldn't porsche have made the base carrera the carrera S and make the Carrera S a 400 hp car like it should be. That would have pleased everyone and I am sure there would be more demand.

more dough for em. also this way, they could leave the same motor in the base 997 with which they have lots of RMS replacement experience.

"You are bidding on a BRAND NEW untitled 2005 Porsche 911 (997) Carrera S. MSRP of this vehicle is $86,040.00 which is also our BUY NOW price."

Buy it Now is actually $85k. Of course this doesn't include taxes, etc. Car is in IL.

I would be sold if I could pay 85k out the door (with chrono and Nav)....Porsche should know that anything in the 90's is a psychological mistake.

I am hoping that dealers will start "dealing" once things calm down....maybe when the Cabs and Box's hit the lots!

Why does porsche even bother with 325 hp for the carrera anyway? Stick that motor in the f$%^ing boxster already and the base carrera should not be outgunned by an m3 or C clas, under any circumstances.

The problem is Porsche knows their customer base which these days is very much the poseur badge buyer (who doesn't even know or care Porsche has been a coward in racing since 1998, but is instead living off that "heritage" from the past) vs. the enthusiast. Like the V6 Cayenne which has taken nearly 1/2 the Cayenne S sales since it came out, they know it's a good idea to have a cheaper status symbol 911 for these people so they can get the badge in their driveway with the right lease payment (ala the BMW & MB drivers). At least Porsche produced a more enthusiast based model this time (though the GT2 and GT3 are the best for this), but the enthusiast are sure paying for it with the extra mark up. That said, given many of the changes (air bags in seats, PASM, etc), the S is not real "modable" in the sense 911s have been in the past for this group.

Agreed, although the harcore enthusiast is the one that seems to get skrewed. Porsche does produce performance models of course, but those models take longer to come out and then you have to pay A LOT more to get performance that is marginally better, example the S vs. regular.

As long as porsche makes money I guess, the turbo and GT models never dissapoint.
