Answer to the question: are they selling?
Yeah, the regular Carrera is a travesty. When 400 hp C6 Corvettes are running around, M3's, SLK's, etc. If they made the regular Carrera with the "S" specs they would have sold like hotcakes. The new "regular" Carreras are no better than the 3.6 996.

I would so buy a 997 S with a few thousand discount, but no one is willing to negotiate. So i finally decided to go with Cayenne S and boxter. :-(
so if anyone knows of a 911 that is gonna go below sticker, shoot me an email.

Why couldn't porsche have made the base carrera the carrera S and make the Carrera S a 400 hp car like it should be. That would have pleased everyone and I am sure there would be more demand.

Buy it Now is actually $85k. Of course this doesn't include taxes, etc. Car is in IL.

I would be sold if I could pay 85k out the door (with chrono and Nav)....Porsche should know that anything in the 90's is a psychological mistake.
I am hoping that dealers will start "dealing" once things calm down....maybe when the Cabs and Box's hit the lots!

Why does porsche even bother with 325 hp for the carrera anyway? Stick that motor in the f$%^ing boxster already and the base carrera should not be outgunned by an m3 or C clas, under any circumstances.

The problem is Porsche knows their customer base which these days is very much the poseur badge buyer (who doesn't even know or care Porsche has been a coward in racing since 1998, but is instead living off that "heritage" from the past) vs. the enthusiast. Like the V6 Cayenne which has taken nearly 1/2 the Cayenne S sales since it came out, they know it's a good idea to have a cheaper status symbol 911 for these people so they can get the badge in their driveway with the right lease payment (ala the BMW & MB drivers). At least Porsche produced a more enthusiast based model this time (though the GT2 and GT3 are the best for this), but the enthusiast are sure paying for it with the extra mark up. That said, given many of the changes (air bags in seats, PASM, etc), the S is not real "modable" in the sense 911s have been in the past for this group.

As long as porsche makes money I guess, the turbo and GT models never dissapoint.
