Sport Design or Carrera S II wheels?

As I had mentioned in my other post, I'm trying to decide between a guards red and a black 09 C4S. Both cars come with Sport Design wheels, but in each case I can get the dealer to swap them to Carrera S II wheels which are standard for 09 S models. Even though the Sport Design wheels are a $390 option, in one case the dealer offered to do the swap at $0 cost or credit while in the second dealer tells me I'd have to pay $200 for the swap - "labor for swapping a set of wheels that involves resetting TPMS, etc... yeah, right.

I am somewhat indifferent between the two wheels, perhaps with a slight preference to the Carrera II S, but I'm not too sure. Should I stick with Sport Design or swap to Carrera S II? What would be your vote? Thank you in advance.

Hey ctporsche,

I am very happy with my Carrera S II wheels. The S II wheels are made with the proper 51mm offset for the rear of the wide bodied C4/C4S cars. When I purchased my new 08 C4S, the car had the 19" Carrera Sport wheels. These wheels required a 17mm spacer in the rear to fit the wide bodied Carrera because the wheels were only manufactured in the one rear C2 offset. You may want to make sure that the 19" Carrera Sport Design wheels come with the proper 51mm rear offset. This way if you want to add a small spacer to push the rear wheels out to the fender lip, you have the opportunity. Maybe someone else can verify this. Good luck with your decision!

I'd like to clarify that both cars came with Sport Design wheels from the factory and I'm contemplating if I should have them changed to Carrera II S wheels.

I think you should decide which ones YOU like best. Wheels are a subjective opinion, and we all have our own tastes. If you like them both, pick the one that is easiest to clean.

I agree with you - I should decide which ones I like best. It's a close call, but I think I'm leaning towards the Carrera II S.

I guess I am not sure if it totally makes sense to be passing on an option and still pay for it - as I'd still have to pay $390 for the Sport Design wheels that are currently on the car, even if I chose to have them swapped out to Carrera II S. I thought I'd take a poll. I really apreciate any insights.

My car came with Sport Designs. They are OK but a PITA to clean. In general, if I am satisfied with the standard wheels I wold not pay more for upgrades but as previously stated, only your opinion matters.....e.g. what's the best flavor of ice cream?

Unless your paying full retail for the car, I don't believe your paying $390 for the Sport Designs, technically. I wouldn't worry at the price level for this car - just get the wheels you prefer. I like the Carrera S II closely followed by the sport designs personally

I run sport designs for the winter

I like the wheels but they are a pain to clean, I would not pay to upgrade unless you were to get some HRE's or some other nice aftermarket wheels. my 2 cents

Go with Carrrera S II. Looks the best IMO, everyone who sees them loves them and extremely easy to clean.

If you really are indifferent to the appearance of the two wheels, I'd suggest you pick the lighter of the two designs. I don't know the relative weights, but the answer may lie there.

can't go wrong with either. However, I personally prefer the II S wheels over the Sport Designs.

When I started looking for my car I was set on the Sport Design wheels, however the one I found had Carrera Classic wheels... Now that I own it, I realize how impossible it would be to keep the Sport Design wheels clean....

I have a set of Sport Design wheels, and although they are a PIA to clean, they look great on the car.
