V6 dilutes the brand of that car. there should be nothing less than a V8 in that car if it is to be a Porsche. I feel the same way about the Cayenne V6.

if people want economy, they should get a brand that's not performance-oriented. I wish Porsche wouldn't sell out like this, but I guess it's the profit from these cars that supports the development of its sports cars.

It's more like a engine for europe.

Since a naked Panamera S costs 130.000$ - the non S-Version lowers the entry by 30.000$ (Germany).
We are getting ripped of in Germany Nicely equipped 4S here for 135.000$ -> round about 100.000 EUR.

Plus 7 Dollars a Gallon or so.....

Folks, frequently models like this are used not just to get people in at a lower price point but also to drive sales of higher end models. Just like how the 8/16GB iPods exist but everyone always buys the next step up because they don't want the absolute worst in the line.

Read Predictably Irrational ... it explains a lot of this. The lower price makes you think you can afford it ... then the higher end models make you feel like you definitely don't want the worst model in the lineup ... etc. I view it as more of a marketing tactic.

Aren't the V6 models (Cayenne & Panamera) designed not only to reduce cost of entry, but also to reduce average MPG (CAFE Regulations) for the brand?

We've been considering a Pan-S for some time, but haven't pulled the trigger. The one thing I DO like about the base model is the matte black trim around the car, it just looks so much sportier.

6- or 8-, to me neither sound as good as that boxer engine revving every time I get going...

I don't see a problem with a 6-cyl. Just add a Sound Racer.

I love how they spend more time talking about the stereo options then the engine, lets you know who there target market is.

I loved my test drive in the 4S demo that the salesman offered when the car first arrived. Even though large 4 door sedans don't fit my needs I am glad i drove one. The smaller engine car will make a great daily driver . Perhaps for most the idea of buying the more expensive Panamera Turbo and spending 150K for a family car is out of reach and this now offers a cost savings practical alternative .

You got that right. Many non-Porsche guys will flock to it. And to tell you the truth for Porsche guys with 911s and such the V6 makes sense too - it's a sedan after all.
