Looking for a started helmet for DE.

My wife and I would like to take the 997s to the next local DE class to see if it's our thing and learn a little more about the car. I'm looking for a starter helmet that won't break the bank and will give us both a taste to see if it's worth investing more $ in.

Any recommendations?

My wife is cool as all get out and is uber competitive.
I think we'd have fun together. Sorry if you don't have the same
arrangement.

You can probably rent a helmet at the track for the first time.

After that you should take a look at Bell helmets they go from moderately price to quite expensive.

I use this one:

A 2005 snell rated helmet should be good until 2014, unless you are in a specific group that requires a more up to date rating. I doubt that DE's amd Auto Cross is one of those groups.

lol...Anyone can bring different women to the track; but few could bring 'the one'. To the OP- great to hear that you could share DE's with your wife.

Bell M4 is the best value I've found. Larger opening for more visibility. I think OG Racing has them and they do some sort of discounting and free shipping.

Certification: The 2010s won't come out until this fall. The 2005s are good for 10 years at our chapter events.

The shop I went to recommended Bieffe when I was shopping for a beginner helmet. It costs about $300-400. Some DE has helmets for rent if you are not ready to buy.

Look for an open face helmet (Snell cert) that fits your head if your car has an airbag. Each brand fits different shape head so keep trying them on and find one that is comfortable.
