Track Day Tire Suggestions?
Anybody have any thoughts on dedicated track tires for my '06 C4s?
I am planning on buying an extra set of wheels and tires for track days. My first thought was to stay with the 19" wheels and get a set of Hoosier R6's, but I can't get enough camber with my stock lower front arms. It also looks like 18" may be better for the track - so does anyone have any suggestions for best performing tires (size, brand, and model) for my car?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.

You are not there to set new lap records, you are there to burn off rubber while having a blast (safely) and exercising your Porsche as it was meant.
I just wore out my stock RE050's (after 6500 miles I am proud to say) which were mighty fine on track.
Enter the Hankook's.
I did one 2-day DE with the Hankook's on rear and remaining RE050's on front in wet and dry and no problem.
For my most recent track day I had a fresh set of *wonderfully economical* Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's which were AWESOME during a disgusting wet cold nasty track day and the drive home in freakin' 30 degrees and some slush!
I was a happy camper while enjoying their progressive, forgiving nature on Thunderhill's challenging course in the wet. Not once did I have scary moment, I was thrilled how well these tires performed.
Even more joy is found in their $155 front and $209 rear pricing. Before a $ $100 Discount Tire rebate. This is a 102Y rated tire (rear) which is fully in keeping with N spec (while not being N spec).
The pics are after five 20-minute sessions and a 190 mile drive home.

Stick that in your "professional detailing" pipe and smoke it...Ventus V12 Evo's. Very good value. Try 'em.
All I can tell is you is my experience with the Porsche N-rated 19" Faux Cups is that they were fine in the cold and wet. Not quite as good as PS2s, but fine. That's why Porsche puts them on the car from the factory - if they couldn't handle the wet / cold, the attorneys would ban them from the assembly line (as they did with BMW when they used to sell cars with the old "real" cups - not available in US).
I forget the exact figure, but I think I was up at about 125 at Watkins Glen in the rain with the 19" N-rated cups.

I believe someone on the GT3 forum said that there is a warning in the owners manual that the MPSC's are not safe in the wet. I can confirm that they are scary in the wet, and would never track in the wet with them, let alone on the street.
Tim, you are welcome to come and swap wheels on #13 for my black sport designs with the MPSC's and try them. I am sure you will find the same results I have.

Thanks again Ron and Ed.
When the RS comes in, I'll try them on wet streets and see if I feel comfortable or not.
@sayboy,
what will you use as wet track tires for your RS? I guess choices are limited due to our wider rear tires.

Can't get Hankook Ventus V12 in 325/30/19 (steamroller size)
Perhaps I should rephrase my original question. While I am new to high powered cars on big tracks, I have been AX'ing quite a bit. On our Miata we are using either Kumho 710's or Falken 615's, depending on the class we are running. The car does have a very aggressive AX alignment. Driving this car, I love the feeling of the 710's, both in grip and the way they release. Are there any 40 tread wear, DOT tires avaiable for the C4S which will work with my current camber (1 degree front, 2 rear)? If not, what is the closest thing to that? Thanks for any help - I am going to be running the TT at Fontana in April, and really want to get the best (track only) tires I can on the car for that.
Hopefully your car will come with the Pirelli tires. Those are very good track tires in 19"
What sizes are your Nito tires? Last time I looked they did not come in the proper outside dimensions for a 997s
i am running them on my 18s nons 275 rears and 235 fronts.you should get 18s fr the track alot of guys do that they say it handles better.

Choice is from 2, availability is poor or non-existent, prices are astronomical.
Lol. Poor doggie, give him some bacon to get back in his good graces...hahaTo some of the posters I'm sure the pic almost produced a cardiac arrest. Hey, It is only paint and metal, right? I prefer to own my car not let it own me...lol
Tim, there is a world of difference between PS2's and MSPC's in the rain. I am on my second set of Cups and would not drive them in the rain. Very slick and unstable. Porsche and Michelin also issue warnings to that effect. PS2's which I ran on an '02 M3 and on my '06 4s Cab are very stable in the rain. They have a much harder compound and, although individual experience varies quite a bit, I got 25K Kms each from 2 sets vs 6K from MSPC's.
