Front license plates, plugs for them, and cops
Nothing to put in the rear license plate holder or rear window?
The dealer put it on and no. I guess I could have pasted it in the rear window, but even with my other cars, in CA they just put something on the front windshield as I described.
in CA, the temp registration is nothing more than a folded up piece of paper in the windshield that has your VIN and mileage. There is no visible date so if you are parked, they can't give you a ticket for an expired temp registration (and people have gotten "no front license tix" when their cars were parked). So leaving the temp registration on the windshield works pretty good here in CA. Like I said, I've drove my Lotus for 2 years without plates and my C4S for over a year without plates and drive through LAX all the time (this is probably one of the most likely places to get a no front lic. ticket).
I have not had a front plate on my Porsche or my M3 for the past five years. I have received two tickets ($25.00) each. The first one was at John Wayne Airport while I was away on business for the day and the other was on the street in in West LA while at lunch. There is a thread somewhere in here that says the rates went to $178.00 for this as of January 1st, but the research I did still shows the fine at $25.00. To me it is worth the occasional $25 not to have the ugly plate in the front, but if I ever get one for the $178 I may have to change my thoughts.

I have been stopped for other things, and they usually throw in an gratuatous extra ticket for the plates when they choose to be ****** about it! I agree that it is better to pay our $75 fine once every few years than have ugly plates and holes in my bumper covers. I always tell the dealers to leave them off! On the new ones (997's) there are no plugs, they actually just drive ugly screws into those awesome looking bumpers....Tragic!Be defiant and pay the occasional fines

well, he couldn't give me a ticket because everything was in order. So, he actually took my other fix a ticket for the tint and told me he would sign it off and turn it in. It was just annoying to get stopped twice in a week for doing nothing.
JCS plate holder
For temporary tow-hook plate mounting I recommend the JCS plate mount. It's inexpensive (about $37.50 including shipping). Contact forum member stumberger_r @ msn.com.

The purpose of the tow hook mount was to eliminate drilling holes.
If you already have the holes, just mount the front plate with the factory mount, I have an extra if you need one!............

997 hidden front plate pics
In Maryland we can get $50 tickets for no front plate. After receiving one and having a few cars without front plates I decided to go the hidden plate route.
The plate mounts to a frame that can retract under the front of the car, so far I've not been pulled over so I can't say that I still won't get a ticket. If I do get pulled over, I'll ask to get out and flip the plate up and see if they let me go.
Here is a link to the entire install for my Shelby - https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...lby-gt500.html
Install on the 997 was very straight forward, I was able get my hands up underneath the front fascia so I could put a nut on the bolts that came up through the frame and through the hole I drilled in the plastic. Took 30 minutes I think and that was with trying to figure out where the best placement was. Here are some pics of the after install look on my 997 and yes, the car is filthy, I need to get busy and detail it for sure.

Meter maids give tickets in W.LA for no front license plate. Unless you don't have license plates at all and still have your temp tag on your front windshield.
Hi there, everyone.
I've just bought my first 911, an 07 C2 CPO.
It came from the dealer with a front license plate (and 2 screw holes on the bumper, I'm told). I'm thinking about getting the little plugs for them, but I wanted to ask people who have done this the following questions:
1. Where should I buy the plugs? I'm in Orange County, CA.
2. I'm told that it is actually illegal to NOT have a front license plate here in California. Has anyone had problems with this? Tickets?
Thank you!

I haven't been stopped for not having a front tag yet and I haven't had one for the 6 1/2 years I've been living in CA where it is illegal. However, I've been stopped for everything else!
What about people who put their license plate on the front dash each time they park? Is this illegal as well?
Thanks, guys.
I live in OC and also stay in West LA a few times a month.
I hate the way the front plates look but I have no time (or patience) to be dealing with cops and fix-it tickets.
The dealer actually told me that many people keep their temporary registration on for an extended period of time. Lol. That's really
and pretty smart.
Michael, on an unrelated note, I tried to get your input on a different thread about clear bras... Can you tell me where you got yours done? You mentioned it was much cheaper than Premier...

Leave your car out on the street anytime in LA without a front plate. You'll see.
Its a great source of revenue for LA and quite easy revenue to get as well. Parking Enforcement will just drive by and ticket you for it.
Good luck,
Steve
