Finally something good to say about Damptronic
SubscribeOk, after much deliberation, I purchased a set of damptronics and had them installed. Quite frankly, given the amount of bad press that they've received, I was beginning to question my own decision. When I received them, they were missing a part (not sure if this was due to Bilstein or the vendor). In any case, the vendor Fed Exd me the missing part so it was no big deal. I took the car to Lucent in West Los Angeles who did a great job. The shop wasn't the prettiest but the service was great and every time I went there, my car happened to be one of the least expensive so I figured it was in good hands. When I pulled out of the shop, I was half expecting my car to make the dreaded click followed by a sunken wheel, but it didn't. Actually, Tom was well aware of the cone washer and showed me why there is a catastrophic failure when it is not installed or installed improperly.
The car looks and drives great. As previously noted, the Damptronics are probably 20-30% stiffer than the stock suspension (in both normal and sport mode). The car definitely corners better, there is less roll and in general feels more planted. Do I really need the Damps, probably not, but I do think that lowering the car adds both an aesthetic value as well as improved handling.....

I concur. I had my set installed a week ago at Hergesheimers in OC. I had the alignment set up for ROW-Performance, with about -3/4 degree camber in front and -1.5 in rear. THe car is lowered about 1/2 to 3/4". I love the look, love the handling, and find the ride very comfortable. While a little stiffer, it still feels compliant, and is less jiggly in sport mode than before. I am totally happy with this mod so far. I kept my cost down somewhat by finding a second hand set with 5000 miles from another member who went back to stock. I figured the significant savings was worth giving up the warranty for.Originally Posted by dk10438

The drop looks great, especially with those wheels. That's a great looking cab.Originally Posted by keninirvine

Nice height. I assume you lowered it about an inch or slightly more? What are the measurements from road to top of wheel well openings? I'm guessing 25 1/2" front and 26 1/2" rear.Originally Posted by dk10438

I feel the same way about my Damptronics! I also give big thumbs up to Lucent and Tom and Arling! Even if they do have to play musical cars when they are crowded (which is often). Installed my suspension on my own, but had Lucent check it and corner balance.

26 5/8
I am glad that you like them, I have had them on my car for well over two years, have taken it to the track a lot, and haven't had one issue with them at all. I am glad to hear that others are enjoying them as well.
This really highlights the downside of web forums. I laughed when I saw the subject: 'Finally something good to say...'.
It's been both my personal, on-line and interpersonal findings the experiences with Damptronics are uniformly excellent. An online note or two about problems and that perspective rotates to them being troublesome, with positive experiences being rare and noteworthy.
Not pinging the OP (I promise), but 6Speed has always been 'Fair and Balanced'
in comments and I just want to keep it that way. OTOH, I'd hate to see repeated comments saying, 'I just installed 'X' and I have had no problems with it!'.

My damptronics and GT3 control arms are getting installed next week along with a realignment and corner weight balance. For those who have dialed in more than neg 2 degrees - are you seeing excessive inside wear on your tires?
Hey guys, in respect to ride height, please post the distance from the wheel CENTER to the top of the wheel well. If you measure to the ground, you add in the variable of the tire sidewall and inflation pressure. Wheel center to fender is much more accurate and universally comparable.
hate to break up the Bilstein lovefest but my experience isnt so great right now...even before buying the Damps I knew in my mind the odds of everything running smoothly was 50-50 at best...I also told myself if my dampers snap in half or something else goes wrong it will be my own fault because I have been warned with all the other threads.
Well my kit came with a cut PASM wire...obviously I didnt do this and my installer didnt either...my car has been in shop since last Friday and will prob be there for another 1-2 wks...Bilstein agreed to cover under warranty but refused to give me a date on when they will ship another one out...they agreed to cover under warranty this Monday...they said they couldnt break apart a set without doing proper labelling and inventory so they wont send one out until next week sometime but they wouldnt commit on the day.
So odds favor I might get a replacement damper by end of next week as they are shipping to distributor and then he has to send to my installer...why they cant/couldnt break apart a set earlier this week when they have 100-1000's sitting in a warehouse is beyond comprehension to me.
So in the end, my car will prob be at installers for 2-3 wks just waiting...3 of the dampers are in so I cant take my car home safely.
