Finally pulled the trigger on a lift.

Been looking at lifts for awhile and finally decided on a mid-rise scissor lift. Max lift height is more than ample for my needs, the lift is movable, plugs into a standard 110 volt outlet and is rated for 6000 lbs. It also eliminates the need posts. When not in use I just park over it.
And for the "It will never be clean enough crowd " this thing is better than sex.

^That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I always love stealing a look under my car when it's on a lift. Now you can do it whenever you want! And, keep everything clean .

It looks like it uses 2 long bottle jacks- is that right? Is it approved for working under the car, or is it for working on the side of the car, but at a more comfortable height?

Yes, essentially, it's hydraulic and works exactly the same as a bottle jack only with bigger rams. It's built like a Sherman tank, weighs over 1000 lbs and has a seperate safety locking system that offers 7 different working heights. As for working under it, as the lift is rated at nearly twice the weight of a 997 I feel more comfortable working under it than with jack stands. In order for it to fail both the safety locking system and both hydraulic rams would have to fail at the same time.

What is the typical rising height?

Is it bolted to the floor?

How much does it cost?

I have seen those before and always considered one JUST for keeping the underside clean.
My question is....
Can it be moved easily(weighing 1,000 lbs)....I know on their website it does say it is easily moved.....BUT is it!?
I would like to move it from the garage to the driveway so I could wash the under carriage...

It is moveable on a smooth surface like your garage floor and could be moved to the driveway and back ( lip on garage floor would add some difficulty on the return trip ). However, it isn't water proof and the book specifically states not to get it wet so washing the car while it's on the lift would be a big no no. And given the design of the lift the undercarage isn't easily accessable. Everything from the jack points forward, or backward in the case on the rear, is easily accessable. So you're looking at wheels, suspension, brakes, exhaust, bumpers, most engine bits, oil and filter change,etc... as stuff that can be worker on. Detailing of the exterior of the car becomes 100% easier when the car is at working height

I was very close to buying a scissors type mid lift for 1600.00 awhile back but the 1000lb weight prevented me from doing so...my prob was trying to figure out where to store this in my garage as it didnt seem like you could store it in vertical position given the size but esp weight...and lifting or carrying it was obviosly out of the question..I believe you said it was easily storable when not being used, can I see a pic of how you store it???...I personally dont want to just leave it in flat position on garage floor as I will have to drive up on 1 or 2 long plank boards every time I pull into the garage...that was the major deterrent.

After reading your post more carefully it doesnt look like you can move it easily...can you drive right over the unit without wood planks?..or would you bottom out with front spoiler...prob wouldnt be an option for sure if your car was dropped correct?

Thanks for sharing. I've often thought about getting one of these, but haven't needed it often enough to justify it. I see you have a hard top hanging in your garage. Perhaps instead of buying an electric winch for the hardtop, one could consider a manual arrangement to lower the hardtop partially over the car, then raise the car to finish mating the top to it?

I had a Rotary brand scissors jack in my garage. They are a great tool. Drive over, put the car in the air and do just about any repair you want. That would include dropping the engine.

No, easily moved not stored. I just park on top of it. As my PCar is a weekender, parking over it is a practical alternative to tripping over it. You're correct when you say you need to drive up on a board as the Porsche will not clear the lift without a little help. I'm using 12 foot 2 x 12's. However, most cars will easliy clear the lift without any help so you can park your SUV or sedan over it without any trouble.

excellent point, didnt think about putting it under my DD or family hauler SUV which would clear it easily...not sure if I could trust my wife to not run it over though......I might even do it with my DD...another option I was thinking about was this lift,...its light and easily storable but it doesnt lift much higher than 24 inches or so.
