Poor cranking speed

Got an 06 C4S, not the orig owner - but the battery is the orig. Anyway, ever since day one that I've had her, the cranking speed is too slow, as if the battery is half-arsed.

@ dealer 6 months ago, it was tested and deemed just fine. Nonetheless the engine never was cranked up quick enough - always a little slow or noticably so.

This past weekend on Sat morning, I noticed as I got on the highway that my driver's window was not all the way up. You know how it goes down a tad and back up when you open/close the door...it was down by that much. I thought hmm weird but carried on...

Later on, after leaving the key in standby and having that chime noise go off endlessly for ... I think 10+ minutes (was dealing with groceries and wiping off some bird poop) - when I tried to start her back up - it turned over like molasses and ... no go. Too slow to start up the engine. Tried again a few mins later and still no go.

Went back out in 20 mins and I managed to start the engine. I noticed that the window didn't go back up completely again, after I closed the door. But then a few secs later I tried to open/close the door and the window behaved normally.

Sunday, seems to be OK.

But I'm wondering if I should replace the battery. I am just not content with the cranking speed of this Carrera. I am not sure if they are known for slower-than-normal crank speeds ... but mine certainly is, in any temperature. I doubt it's anything other than the battery.

And if u guys suggest I replace it ... got any recommendations?

These sound like battery symptoms . I replaced mine after two years in a precautionary effort and to have peace of mind. The dealership may have been right 6 months ago .. but it is a 6 months later .. maybe its time.

I have a 2007. I noticed the crank speed diminishing. I changed the battery and now it cranks immediately. Bought an Interstate for a little less than $200.

I was having this issue on my 06 as well. I realized that I wasn't charging the battery enough over the weekends for the week it sat still. I picked up a ctek battery mantainer and now it back to stregnth. Anytime the car is going to sit for more than a day I plug it in. I was prepared to get a new battery thinking that it just wouldn't hold a charge anymore but it appears to be ok. I'm getting my oil fanged next week and I'll have the battery tested while its there.

Battery and generator cable bad

Just had similar symptoms w/ 2006 C2 2nd OEM battery. Dealer found battery failing but also generator cable showed excessive voltage drop.
R&R both under warranty.
Must have greater than 6K miles/year for 24 mo. battery warranty replacement per dealer.

Had the same thing happen with my '06. It started to crank slowly for a few months, then went bad. You could probably get some additional life out of the battery if you pick up a maintainer, but 4 years is about the life on the OEM one, so you most likely are better off getting it replaced (I did a simple swap with the Duralast gold from Autozone). The battery will inevitably go bad (most likely sooner than later) and it always happens when you least expect it. Ask me how I know

If you have an '05 or '06 with the original battery do yourself a big favor and replace it regardless. Inexpensive and easy so do it soon before you get stuck somewhere!

Thanks guys, I wanted to be sure I get a replacement better that is at the very least the equal in quality/output as the one I got now. Would I for any reason have a different size battery for the C4S than you folks with C2/C2S?

Before you get a new battery, it's worth checking whether you have any electrical devices that remain 'on' even when the car is off. Examples are iPod cables, OBDII cables (e.g. Rev application), or radar detectors. I found that my MoBridge cable that connects to my iPod Touch kept it on and charging all the time. The battery was always being discharged and if the car sat for a long time, it cranked very slowly. I didn't realize it because the iPod was in the GC. I don't keep it plugged in when the car is off any longer.

Yield to Verde's advice. Check if there is a load beyond the std one and check if the alternator is working properly and all high-current lead connections are firmly attached.

Ah, yeah true, I have a permanently-inserted USB adapter in my cigarette charger (the one between the seats, which is always powered). I seldom use it, might as well keep it in the glovebox till needed.

Plus I have aftermarket satellite radio unit installed...not sure what that thing is doing power-wise upon start up, standby, and power off / locked.

Thanks.
