Maximum you'd pay if Carrera S had wide body option?
Writing this post because I'm curious as to what the maximum amount you would be willing to pay if the Carrera S had a wide body option (like the 4S). Play along with me for a minute....
I have read hundreds of posts on the forum about personal preferences for 2S vs 4S vs 2S - and pros / cons for tracking, etc. If we set that all aside for a moment and just consider the looks of the car (set aside greater potential for dings), how much would you be willing to pay if Porsche offered a wide body option on the Carrera S.
To help with your decision, the current base price difference between the Carrera S coupe and Carrera 4S coupe is $6,300. Again, realize you get all wheel drive (more weight) etc. with 4S, but want you to just consider the look of the car.
Here are a range of prices. If you would purchase if offered, what is the maximum you would be willing to pay?
1. $4900
2. $4300
3. $3900
4. $3500
5. $2900
6. $2400

Option 5. But only if there was some additional benefits included like Wider wheels/tires, or upgraded suspension tuning. Even on the low end that's a lot to pay for what is primarally an apperance item.
You can easily correct understeer, press the right most pedal a little bit and the car will correct itself.
Good advice indeed, my friend!

If it were included on every 997, then it wouldn't be a wide body option any more, it would be the standard body.
If you drop the car, and put spacers on, this gives the illusion of a wide body. I parked mine with these mods next to a 997 tt and it was difficult to tell the difference in narrow vs. wide. So I'd pay $0 to make it a wide body, but would pay for the increased performance and look of the dropped car plus spacers. My prior Turbo I dropped and put spacers on anyways, so the net to get this "look" is $0.
I believe the only 993 C2's that were widebody were the 97/98 C2S. They had a different engine grill and 18" wheels as well. There was a price premium over the previous C2, so I don't think Porsche ever gives anything away. I would have paid a $2-3K for the wider body but no more. Agree w/ other posters that beyond that premium it makes more sense to buy a C4.
Widebodies for everyone!! I guess another thread could discuss if people prefer the look of the widebody or the standard body. All things the same (i.e. price), is there anyone that prefers the standard body to the widebody?
taylorcoleman, what size spacers do you have? I'm thinking about Suncoast's 5mm...will this work with 305 rear tires? How will it look (on Carrera Classics)?

I tried the 5mm with 295's and the look was too subtle. I now have 15mm spacers with 305's (on GT3 OEM rims) and it looks fantastic. It IS at the edge of allowable clearance, but I had already been using the 15's, so I stayed with them. I use 7 mm's on the front and likely could use 10's for the matching look as the rears.
The 5mm is a nice OEM kit in that it includes the matching longer-length bolts. I found a set of stainless steel bolts for the 7/15's. They look great and I have a better sense of safety (well founded or not) because of the higher grade material.
Maybe I'm too um focused, but the SS bolts have a different 'feel' when torquing them to spec, versus the stock material. Perhaps someone more informed could comment on that. Just an observation.
