My battery just died and i need to replace it and was wondering what kind of batteries does everybody uses?

Also is the battery located in the hood or in the trunk? I know how to open the hood if the battery dies, But i just want to make sure were to look first before taking the plastic cover off.

Thanks,

Buy the Audi battery. It's identical to the Porsche unit but much less expensive and they don't need to fill/charge it.

Alternatively, check your local auto parts store. Often they have MUCH better warranty on the battery and... wait, I see you're in Canada. Go to Canadian tire, we just got a new group size battery for audi/mercedes. It'll fit fine and has a 3 year free replacement warranty and 9 year total warranty (prorated after the first three years).

If you're in the ottawa area, drop me a line or come see me.

It's under the plastic cover just aft of the storage area. Two quick release clips and lift the cover. There are several aftermarket batteries available. Interstate has a replacement and they are available in Canada....
Try: http://www.interstatebatteries.com
The original equipment is good but quite expensive.....

My battery is two yrs old. I've been looking and thinking about batteries for awhile. Personally, I wanted to take the opportunity for a "mod" with my battery swap. Perhaps something that weighs less, etc. There's lots of info. on this site for lightweight batteries, etc. I'm tossed between an Odyssey 925 for weight and an Optima Red Top for less hassle. I'm leaning toward the Red Top and the bracket from GMG. Actually looking right now to make sure that the Porsche battery charger is compatible with the Red Top...research, research.

Bought a 1000 CCA, full 3 yr warranty EXIDE battery that just dropped in (to the outer battery clamp setting), vent hose hook up for $78.00. Had to buy it at Wal-Mart, but went in the back door.

If you are interested in a battery 'mod', I'd recommend the Odyssey battery and aluminum 'tray' from rennline.com. Very lightweight (under 20 lbs versus around 50 lbs for the stock battery), good cold cranking specs, beautifully crafted aluminum battery mount. Optional power off switch. I first bought a Braille but had some problems with it. In truth, it might have been pilot error - I had a current drain with an accessory that I was unaware of. I only debugged it when I purchased the Odyssey.
I didn't think I could get satisfaction from a battery upgrade but I did. BTW, I just installed the Braille (with a home-made bracket made of aluminum and lexan) into the 930. That car draws a lot less power when it's off. So far, so good. Also weights around 20 lbs and since the case is made out of CF, it looks pretty cool.
I should add the caveat that these batteries may not be right for those who live in extreme cold, are not auto enthusiasts, and/or let the car sit for weeks at a time. In the latter two, putting the car on a charger (Braille does make the best charger I've ever used) may be required and just has to be an accepted part of your 'lifestyle'. No problem for me, but not for everyone's tastes.

I was kinda surprised yesterday - I used that link that was posted for VIN decoder and it shows as an option 'battery power off switch'.

Does anybody know where the heck is this thing in 997.1 car? So far I just disconnect negative terminal from battery itself when i need to power it down but apparently we do have a switch somewhere, at least according to options list as I looked several other VINs from cars.com and it does show up on every car.

Hmmm not sure about this, but when the car's are delivered to the dealers there is a battery disconnect switch installed, but I believe it is removed during the PDI...Could this be the switch in the options list??
