Are all ecu flashes created equal?

What are the actual differences, if any, between all these companies offering ecu flashes for our cars? Is one better then the other? It seems like they are all doing, and offering the same thing. For example : If I was to install FVD headers and high flow cats on my car would the FVD flash be any better then a GIAC flash for my car? To me it doesn't seem to make a difference. Does it?

Look at the often overlooked Softronic. The Softronic flash is installed via laptop computer running windows. The original data from your DME is sent to Softronic. They then return a tuned file to your specifications and your original file. Your car can be flashed back to stock at anytime. Softronic is big in the Boxster / Cayman community. I had it on my Boxster and couldn't have been happier.

Same is true of FVD. Hard to tell what the difference is between the two flashes.

Obviously GIAC/EVOMSit is more involved, having to remove the ECU from the car.

I have the GIAC flash and I believe the car performs a little better. You will not notice huge gains just from a flash. I did not have to remove the ECU. I went to a GIAC dealer and they performed the flash upgrade in less than 30 minutes. It was not a big deal and overall happy with the product.

No, GIAC is window based and done without removing / mailing in ecu. I found it interesting (and hopefully good) that my tech took the car out twice to test / tweek the flash to get it just where he wanted it.

To the OP: call a couple of these different providers; they were happy to talk to me and tell me why their product was 'better' than the competitors. Of course you'll then have to sort out the answers .

Can FVD be done at home with your own laptop?
Softronic can with no dealer or shop visit needed.
