Rear Fender Stone Guards Yellowing
Rear Fender Stone Guards Yellowing
My car is white and the protective film on my rear fender has yellowed over time. It bothers me because I don't know whats worse. Having stone chips on my rear fenders or having a big yellow pad. Any idea where I can get replacements? Is this covered under warranty?
I had the same problem on mine when I bought the car 2 years ago (white 997). So I had it taken off and placed a clearbra over the side skirts and the fender guard thinking that the clear bra wouldnt yellow as much. Of course it did... and now I'm just considering taking it off altogether. I may regret that decision but I dont know how much protection one might need on their fender guards if they dont track the car.
You can buy new stone guards at your dealer, or have new ones made from more fade-resistant material. No big deal to have a clear bra person replace them for you. I wouldn't remove them completely because even if you don't track your car, those fenders get a lot of debris thrown at them in normal driving.

I have a white 997.2. It's only been a year, but the stone guard is very yellow now.
Anyone in Vancouver knows or has experience if MCL would replace it free of charge?

Mine turned yellow too. Had the dealer replace them for $230. I've heard enough guys say that the regret removing them (lot's of rock chips) so I'm going to assume that I'll spend $230 every couple of years.
Mine are a little yellow, but I can't tell with all the black stuff from the track on them (which is a PIA to get off of these guards). I haven't asked MCL, but if you have a good relationship with them give it a try. Some people have had them replaced, others didn't under warranty.
Mine were yellowed. Dealer I bought the car from promised to replace them but didn't (fricking dealers). I just did it myself last weekend.
$50 for a pair of replacements :

pretty easy job. I used a hair dryer to peel off the old ones. Then do a real good clean around the area with dawn and clay bar (no wax). Apply new ones with *lots* of soap spray and be very vigorous with your squeegee to get out all the bubbles.
Looks good as new now!

With a white car, they were seriously yellowed after two years or so. My dealer replaced them under warranty (i.e. free) and they have held up reasonably well ever since.
I am told that clear bra (including this material) is yellowed by poorly aimed squirts of tire protectant (since it's an aerosol or a mist, it can easily carry to the clear guard). I don't use the stuff myself, but the previously owner might have.

Mine yellowed in less than 2 months on my GT Silver car. And my car is ALWAYS garaged. The dealer offered to warranty them but instead I took a $ credit at the dealer and had an aftermarket clear bra put on in place. I'm not sure what the factory uses but it's crap.
