Decision time: 997.1 TT vs. 997.2 C4S PDK
Decision time: 997.1 TT vs. 997.2 C4S PDK
I'd appreciate any thoughts:
I currently own a 2009 997.2 C4S PDK with 9,000 miles. While I love the car, I have had issues with overheating during HPDE days. This is pretty disappointing to me. Although I only do a half dozen of these days a year, it does taint my feelings a bit as I have spent over $100k on a sports car that seems incapable of handling that sort of stress. In addition , seems Porsche is aware of this at least to some extent as the 2011 MY Carrera S cars with PDK will come with an additonal center radiator.
I am considering trading in for a 997.1 TT 6 speed, which should be similar cost, although I will lilkely loose several thousand $ in the exchange due to the depreciation hit on the C4S and the fact that my current loan (at 1.9% for 60 months) is for about 10K more than the trade-in value seems to be.
Am I nuts to think this way? Will the 997.1 TT perform on HPDE days better?
Thanks in advance for any help in thinking about this!

I would get the turbo for the mere fact its a 6 speed. PDK is awesome for track but for 95% of driving I prefer a manual. You get a lot of car for the money with a 997.1 turbo that it is hard not to consider one. I dont think you can go wrong either way as both really are brilliant cars.
absolutely!
If you lead the dealer down the right path and let it be their idea, perhaps they will install it for NC

This is the least expensive route and i agree UNLESS he wants a Turbo and a fresh start with a different car.
Unfortunately my dealer service manager says that the center radator kit would be considered aftermarket, and would therefore end up voiding my warranty.
If that is not on the table, does that make you all think the change to TT make more sense?
Thanks!

By the way Excellence recently did an article on a guy that converted his C2S PDK into a club racer. If memory serves, the owner had some issues with the PDK going into limp mode that he solved with the extra radiator. After the fix the car was apparently quicker around the track than his 997.1 RS. I would add the extra radiator and call it a day. I dont see how the dealer can void your warranty for this but I would get a 2nd opinion or take this up with Porsche NA.

I think you are referring to the Excellence article on the Champion Motorsport TT pdk. The pdk went into limp mode when they added to much horsepower. I don't believe they had any limp mode issues in the C2S pdk club racer article even when they added the lighter flywheel. I think they had one issue when they tried to race the car in auto mode, a PASM failure came up and the car disengaged from sport plus mode. They reprogrammed the ecu and the car was back to normal.
We have a third radiator in stock and ready to ship. Please let me know if there is anything we can help you out with!
That does rank pretty high on the BS o'meter.
Definately go elsewhere.
