key range, lock beep, pedal placement questions

As the title says I have three questions

1 – What is the range on the key fob? I seem to not be able to get more than 20 feet away before it won’t react.

2 – Is there a way to get the car to beep or chirp when it locks? The flashing lights can be hard to see and I find myself going back to the car to check.

3 – Pedal placement for heel toe seems to be odd. Is there any way to adjust the pedals for an easier time with this?

thanks
phil

I don'k know about Items 1 and 2 - but I do have some info on #3. I had the same question on pedal height when I got my car. I was looking to mechanical options when I came across a thread which indicated that the pedal relationship does become correct for heel and toe under hard braking. I tried this, and found out that it is true - it's great on the track, but be carefull on the road...

Yea I noticed that if I hit the brakes hard I didnt have to heel to the point where it felt uncomfortable. But at a slower speed it doesn't work very well at all.

i also noticed heel-toe is hard for daily driving - and i have pretty big feet.

for remote range, i believe the booklet states its about 100 feet. mine works at this range. have you tried updating your battery?

for the horn sound on lock/unlock, my new smarttop module takes care of that, but i'm almost positive the dealers can jerry-rig this for you. give your dealership a call.

Don't think my key works much further away than 20-30 feet, certainly not 100 ft away.

SmartTop, they have a version for a coupe also, will add a beep when locking/unlocking and some other features. Google it and you'll find it. Also sometimes available on ebay.

As for heal / toeing , never got the hang of that so can't say but you can by extensions that will effectively thicken, or raise up, the gas pedal from a couple of sponsors of this forum. Searching "pedals" or check out the racing shop sites.

Leave your glove compartment open when you lock the car, that will give you an audible warning when you lock the car

In all seriousness, smartop is the way to go.

Agree with smartTop. Just installed yesterday on my 997S cab. The features for the coupe are great as well. Its made by Mods4cars (google that) and vivid racing usually has great deals on this part.

The name of the part for a coupe is: SmartTop Remote Key. It adds a few other functions as well...roll up and down windows, etc...

As for range, try a new battery or hold the remote up to your jaw. This will give you better range.

Yes I have known about holding the remote up to your temple for years, and it really does work but I gain maybe 10 extra feet. Looks like I will look into the battery. Thanks for all the help with the SmartTop stuff, I assumed maybe the dealer could do it but if not oh well.

As far as the pedals go, I am just doing it wrong? I can heal toe in and other car but this one. Its like it was setup to not be able to unless you are under very hard braking conditions.

I will look at the pedal extensions as an alternative.

Thanks
phil

if you do not have seat memory function and your passenger windows does not turn all th way down when you put your car in reverse - get smarttop right away. it is cheaper than to repair your rims after you drive your car into curb while parking. chirping as i was told may be activated by piwis reprogramming at dealer but I would recommend smarttop anyway.

I had a bit of a challenge heel-toeing in my 997 as I've been doing it for years and am used to it in my BMW. I'm practicing and it feels like I'm getting better at it but I do miss every now and then.

My range is about 50 feet as well, butI wait til I'm about 20 feet away before I actually unlock it. No sense for me to unlock when too far away anyways...

The plain difference between the brake and the gas makes it so I have to either be braking super hard or must put a whole lot of heal into it, which is a very odd feeling. I dont know what to do as I now find myself doing it on a normal basis like I have been and missing
